Just managed to get my entry in as my angelfish are currently guarding eggs. My female black ghost just put in an apperance so I grabbed my phone pronto after scribbling the required note lol. She's now gone back to egg guarding and hiding with her partner.

This my black ghost female angel fish who has only recently laid eggs(just coming upto 3 days ago) and has been very busy guarding them with her partner a beautiful and highly coloured koi male. Is anyone using or has used Seachem Ammonia Alert?

I use the Seachem ammonia alert and think it's great. After 12 months it'll need to be replaced which I'll definitely be doing.

    Planting ambulia

I have Ambulia Limnophila Sessiliflora and a small pea gravel substrate. I use plant weights to make sure it stays where I plant it. Once it has a good root system I then remove the plant weights.

    Zebra Danio Variation?

Thanks for the replies guys. It appears that my unusual Danio is either a cross breed or just a colour morph of some description.

How long to run a UV steriliser?

I've now had the UVS running for the past 4 days and my water is now crystal clear. I can look through the length of my tank and clearly see my guitars on the far wall of the room. However, I've also noticed another possible benefit. I had several fish that would flash on plants and decor...

    Zebra Danio Variation?

I have 10 Zebra Danios but one of them looks quite a bit different. I assume it's a male but his colouration is far more striking than the other Danios. His tail fin pattern is also very different. He tends not to swim with the other Danios and he can be quite aggressive. Any info would be...

    Leaking Tank

Check all wires and airlines coming out of the tank, also check your filter. Sometimes,, water can escape via osmosis from the above. Whatever it is, I hope you soon get it sorted.

Is my platy pregnant or ill?

Judging by what appears to be a gravid spot, I'd say she is pregnant. As for the red patch, it could just be colouration, if it is then I wouldn't worry about it. The fact that she's acting normal is a sign that she's OK. Just keep an eye on the red patch and see if it gets any bigger or if she...

Vote Now...November 2019 Pet of the Month

This is Izzy a blue Bedlington Terrier who was born on the 1st of April 2017 and she loves her teddy bear as well as all the other toys she has. She'll be 3 years old next April. Bedlington terriers don't malt or smell doggy but do need daily grooming. I guess they look a little like lambs but...

How long to run a UV steriliser?

From what I can gather, this seems to be a common issue with the SunSun canister filters with built in UV sterilisers. It appears that the plastic being used for the trays is not UV stable and therefore the UV breaks it down. Fortunately for me, the UVS I have ordered is not a SunSun and is a...

How long to run a UV steriliser?

The fact that they can help to destroy parasites is something that's surely beneficial.

How long to run a UV steriliser?

They are for clearing cloudy water, helping to get rid of algae and also killing some parasites thereby helping to prevent some diseases. My main reason for wanting one is to help with algae and to improve water clarity.

How long to run a UV steriliser?

I've ordered a 24watt UV steriliser and would like to know if it's ok to run it 24/7 or should it be only used for a set time period? What are the pros and cons of running the UV steriliser 24/7 or the pros and cons of only running it for a certain amount of hours a day? This is the model...

Howard_Hopkinson - November 2019 Tank of the Month'

Thanks Fishmanic. I love all my fish but the angelfish are undoubtedly my favourites especially the black ghost female. She can be a bit cantankerous towards the male koi angel, but also tends to spend quite some time displaying to him. She has laid eggs a couple of times but they soon get...

Howard_Hopkinson - November 2019 Tank of the Month'

It's actually part of the castle and as such is made from resin as is the rest of the castle. In other words, there is no actual flowing water.

Howard_Hopkinson - November 2019 Tank of the Month'

Yeah it was fairly close mate lol. The castle was definitely she who must be obeyed idea! I wasn't too keen on it to start with, but I must admit it's kind of grown on me now. The fish definitely seem to like it given all the nooks and crannies it affords them.

Oh wow, I definitely didn't expect to win when I entered my aquarium, I'm bowled over and would like to thank everyone who voted for my tank. The castle ornament was purchased off of eBay, its in 2 pieces which is just as well given its size which is 55 x 19 x 37 cm.

    Artifial plants or no?

Unless they are specifically for use in aquariums, I'd seriously think twice before putting them in your fishtank.

    Tetras

It's not unusual for similar coloured schooling fish to school together. Since green neons & ordinary neons are very similar I think there's a good chance of the schooling together.

    Dying guppy

I'd feel awful too, but it's inhumane to leave it to suffer and that's why I suggested euthanising it. It's not something any of us would want to do, but I feel it would be kinder for the poor fish.
  40. howard_hopkinson

    Dying guppy

Personally, given the state of the fish, I think the kindest thing would be to euthanise the fish.
