Which root tabs are the best?

They are available, but apparently they have gone through a 'reformulation'. Don't really know what it may consist of. This is from their website today https://www.seachem.com/flourish-tabs.php

    What fish are they?

Certainly rainbows, most likely Melanotaenia sp. However, I don't know the species and the photos don't show them well. I am sure more knowledgeable rainbow people will chime in. I like the algae growth on the rocks and I am sure the rainbows appreciate it.

Big tank filters… styles, types, and what works best

I don't have advise that would be useful, other than suggesting NOT to plug the wholes in a permanent manner (i.e., gluing). Instead, I would cap them if not interested in using them at this time. That is a very nice tank, and there are many possibilities; you may find yourself changing your...

Concerned About White Stringy Feces in My Aquarium

Unfortunately, adding new fish (without quarantine) was a mistake. Too bad, but too late for regrets. But now, potentially there is a combination of i) what appears to be ick, ii) what may have remained if the Prazi did not fully eliminate the previous issue, and then, iii) any additional issues...

Wow… who would eat almond leaves like this???

I am not sure who is doing it in your tank, but my money is on a combination of the effects of time, and the activity of Amano shrimp, flying foxes, and perhaps loaches. If you had a pleco, it would also be a culprit. And if you have snails, then them too. I doubt the barbs, gourami, or cories...

Is this the best lotus you’ve ever seen ? Or is it just me ?

That is very nice! My experience with my one Lotus is mixed - it goes through very good spans of time (lots of new leaves, blooming), then slows down almost to nothing, and then improves again. That, despite conditions (including nutrients) being relatively constant and the rest of plants and...

This poor Oscar I saw in a customer house .

That is very sad indeed. Amazingly, it looks relatively okay (no obvious HITH, etc). Perhaps it has not been in those quarters for long. Still, very sad.

    Fast killing ich?

Another thing to keep in mind is that ich doesn't only attach to fins and bodies of fish. In fact, they have a preference for 'hidden' parts, such as gill arches and others. The implication is that by the time the first spots are seen on fins and such, they probably have been in other places for...

    Head injured

Even though I feel bad for your injury, it seems as if you were actually very lucky because it could have been very damaging, considering how close to the eyes and other sensitive parts. Must keep it clean and hopefully it will just be part of your tales to tell ---- the wild bear swathed at...

    Riccia cultivation

I am having success (that is, it grows despite whatever I do) in floating corrals at the top of my aquaria; corrals are made of loops of plastic hose, tethered to the side of the tank. Some fish munch on it, other browse for goodies amongst them. I clean it often to avoid clumps of debris which...

    Silver dollars... specifically Metynnis Fasciatus

I have a group of 4 tiger dollars, still growing. Currently young adults at about 3.5 inches in length. At the beginning (2 years ago) they will munch some on my plants, but not too bad, and their tank was fully planted with 3 species of plants (Cryptocoryne, Hydrophila, and Microsorum) +...

Gluing hardscape above waterline in an already-stocked tank

+1 superglue or silicone. The silicone can be solvent-based (acetone), or hot-melt. The latter has advantages such as curing very quickly and having no fumes. Glass surface must be impeccably clean and dry for it to adhere, and it does not adhere as strongly, so useful for some applications but...

What are the differences between Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis & Pristella maxillaris

I currently keep schools of several tetras, in various tanks. Lemons, black phantom, Colombian, black neons, and Neons. I like them all, each differently. Although lemon tetras are subtle, and not as flashy of some other tetras, I like them very much in a group in a planted tank. Mines have do...

Will silver dollars actively hunt live bearer babies???

I believe it is not possible to make a statement that applies to all taxa of silver dollars. Also, it depends a lot on what/how the silver dollars are being fed, and the characteristics of the aquarium situation. The term "silver dollar" encompasses a vast array of taxa in several genera and...

Angel Fish... that get along best for community tanks...

Long-nose angel is the common name of P. leopoldi (= P. dumerilli), characterized by the reason for its name (due to a near-absence of the pre-dorsal notch, which is present in P. scalare and strongest in P. altum), and for an additional (incomplete) black bar, not present in the other two species.

Angel Fish... that get along best for community tanks...

Correcting myself - long-nose angels are a third species, not that frequently kept, but not rare. No more species of FW angels.

Angel Fish... that get along best for community tanks...

There are only two species of freshwater angel fish.... one much more common of the other, much more frequently kept successfully by average aquarists, and with many man-made 'varieties'.

    Replace biohome ultra with foam?

Hey TwoTankAmin - I am considering purchasing Poret foam to replace several of my Aquaclear 110 filter's foams that are falling apart. In the past, I have purchased some of the generic ones sold on eBay (from China); they work fine but the quality is somewhat lesser and the pore size different...

Anything wrong with this??? looking for food for small juvenal Silver Dollars

A varied diet no matter what. I would go for Ken's veggie sticks, Spirulina sticks, as well as flakes (Kensfish.com). Since the dollars are so small, perhaps the small pellets may be good. I also use nori, which they love (in hanging strips). A rotating diet consisting of some top quality...

any issues with combining the various species of silver dollars into a school...

"All silver dollar fish are vegetarian and eat any plants in the tank." Not necessarily. You can make smart choices of plants, and you can train the dollars (at least Metynnis spp., in my experience). Giving plenty of space and providing smart feeding is critical. Different species of Metynnis...

    Living in America...

I have used a number of different types of leaves in my tanks over the years. I have never paid a penny for any of them, as I have been fortunate enough to have access to clean, free leaves in the various places I have lived. I have used maple (and sycamore), oak, almond, avocado, magnolia, and...
