What fish are they?

It's a rainbowfish, a Melanotaenia, but it's not clear enough to see what species.

Certainly rainbows, most likely Melanotaenia sp. However, I don't know the species and the photos don't show them well. I am sure more knowledgeable rainbow people will chime in. I like the algae growth on the rocks and I am sure the rainbows appreciate it.

They are large, so they can dominate a tank. They have small mouths, so they tend not to eat smaller fish, but they will boss them around. There are a lot of species, but most are okay in a community if the tank is more than a metre long along the front. They need room to swim.

I’m getting a new tank tomorrow and they also come with it and an Oscar fish but I believe they aren’t community fish? I just wanted to make sure before I put them in with my fish that they wouldn’t kill them
