Any idea what these are on my Batman snails???

Not eggs, but capsules with eggs inside. Ovoposition of one snail onto another’s shell.

Not a baby guppy. Looks like a young female, quite gravid.

    Tropical Fish “Supermarket “

I was there in about 1999-2000. At the time I was deep into wild discus and they had a few beautiful specimens. I did not remember the name of the store, nor have I been back. But I will try.

    Fish tank in music room

I have 3 125g tanks and 3 40g in the basement, where my cd collection and stereo lives. I cannot imagine water changes without listening to music. Have not had any issues for years.

At what point do the long fins effect quality of life, for a fish???

I do think it matters, and the long fins place the fish at a disadvantage. True that in an aquarium it is less critical, but I generally hate them. My own bias, I acknowledge.

    Aqua Clear 110 question

No matter if if the filter is a bit too big, you can always tame to a purrrrr, using the cut out soda bottle hack. Depending of the shape and size you cut the bottle, you can attain various flows, or flow in specific direction. Plenty of photos online, some my own. Aquaclear filters are among...

    Longest tropical fish lifespan

This is by far not a record, or even remotely close, but among a group of 7 silver dollars in one of my tanks, 3 fish (Metynnis maculatus) are a documented 26 years since purchases, so at least 27. 2 other fish (Metynnis altidorsalis ) are 10 years old. Somebody has documented -40 years for a...

A strange fish... easy to keep... not for me, but maybe for you??? danio-dangila

Most danios have barbels. One of the most dramatic ways of seeing them is when danios (for instance, small zebra danios) are looked at from above, while being in a plastic bucket. The barbels appear huge. And then, some species actually have big ones.

Fish safe bondo for non waterlogged wood

I prefer to attach together the pieces of wood to give the shape and position I want. Generally I use cable or other type of ties not glues. Then I position rocks and plants. Initially, additional rocks may be needed if using new wood. Free if you already have the wood.

    Pre filter question

I think that can be included best by you for your specific circumstances. I have mesh prefilters in all my filters (10 AC110,s, 2 fx6, several others). I clean all prefilters weekly in sink water. For others, in other tanks? Who knows….

    On the subject of dosing

I have never used that product and I believe I never will. What do you use it for in the sense of “for maintenance”? The product description speaks of reducing ammonia and nitrite. Your established BB do that for free. The rest (nitrate, hormones, other waste)….that’s the purpose of water...

75 Gal Tank With Fluval FX4

The fx4 will be just fine, not too much. I used to have a fx6 and AQuaclear 110 in a 75. It is just aboutvsmart placement and types of intakes and outlets. Coupled with a prefilter, an aggressive tank water change regime, and frequent cleaning of the filter, the fx4 would be just fine.

    Discus chasing

Separating the fish will indeed sometimes work. Except that the single discus is unlikely to thrive on its own either. Also, quite often, the next lowest in the pecking order will become the target, repeating the issue on another fish. There will almost always be a hierarchy. Physical structures...

    Discus chasing

Not knowing other details -and even knowing- it sounds as if that fish is at the bottom of the pecking order. It will be harassed relentlessly and outcompeted for food. It is tough with discus behavior. Sometimes, adding more decorations and complexity to the tank will make a big difference, but...

A long finned, additionally genetically modified black skirt tetra, Gymnocorymbus ternetzi. They prefer to live in groups and establish pecking orders. I prefer the wild types of all species.

    Let's Talk Books...

RE the Baensch series. The photo index 1-5 is a single volume that includes most of the info on vols 1-5, in synthetic form. Much more than just photos, basically mostly the same info, using code conventions. Although of course a number of species have entered the hobby since published, and...

    anyone keeping Hemiodus Tetras???

Yes, they look similar to H. orthonops, but the taxonomy of Hemiodus is difficult, with a nmber of similar species, and without knowing the locations of origins of what is available, it becomes nearly impossible, except for the few species with very distinct and visible characters. Orthonops is...

    anyone keeping Hemiodus Tetras???

The main characteristic of Hemiodontidae is lack of teeth on their lower jaws. They mostly feed on small, softer things, both on the bottom and on the water column. They are not predatory and even small tetras will be completely out of their dietetic realm. However, they can be very boisterous...

    Clams anyone???

Those are Corbicula Asian clams. The not-golden variety is an introduced species present in nearly all waterways in the USA and parts of Canada (primarily small creeks and rivers, but also lakes). An unfortunate un-intended import many decades ago. In fact, 2-3 species (Corbicula fluminea...

    Frogbit Problems

I see no frogbit in the pictures above. Frogbit is a floating plant, with relatively small leaves. It is not suppossed to be planted; in fact it would be very difficult to succeed at planting it, because the leaves have vesicles filled with air, which keep pulling them to the surface. And the...

    2nd opinion on snail ID

Sorry for the double post. Please disregard my previous (wrong) id. It is certainly a Planorbid snail (ramshorn is one of many common names), possibly Planorbella. When crushed against the glass, they make excellent food for fish. It is not recommended to crush them by hand, as many fw snails...

    2nd opinion on snail ID

You need to show a picture showing the aperture of the snail (the hole from which the foot comes out. You need to pick it up, and turn it). All the pictures you have shown are of the same view of the snail. After seeing your last pictures I am doubting the statement I made before about your...

Levamisole medication ineffective when dosed only in the water?

In the basic cellular sense, there are 3 types of transport across cell membranes: Osmosis, Diffusion, and Active Transport (several types). Osmosis is the movement of Water across membranes. Diffusion is the movement of Solutes along a concentration gradient (from higher concentration to...

    2nd opinion on snail ID

A side picture would be most helpful for a better view. However, your snail is sinistral (coiled to the left), as opposed to dextral (to the right). With that shape, and being sinistral, it is certainly a snail in the family Physidae (people call them ‘pond snails’, but common names suck), most...
