Strange question… will products like Quick Start, hinder “real” beneficial bacteria growth???

I really don't think so, I've only either observed no impact or good impact (not bad impact) from bacteria cycling solutions, from testing my water and going by how fast a cycle "normally happens"

    Bottom feeders

You could have 1 bristlenose pleco, but some of the options will depend on other tank mates and water parameters. You could also consider corydoras catfish or khuli loach.

I have had Tropco video fish for me before if you email them. They can take a few days to reply.

Think i may do Dr Tims cycle

It's the best one of that type on the market I feel. Safe Start from tetra is second. I've used them both a few times and Dr Tim's works better in my experience.

    Slow fishless cycle

Of course, you can have it as an option. I got into the Goop from an experimental perspective. I didn't have a tank to cycle the last few times I used it! I have lots of spare tanks, dry filter sponge and spare internal filters. I was meticulous. I was able to get from 2ppm ammonia to 0ppm...

Just the get the Goop, you are UK. It works brilliantly. I swear by it.

Two Week and Three Day Old Tank

The ammonia reading could be a false positive. It happens. What test kit are you using? Also, the ammonia at 0.25 won't bother the fish as the pH is below 7, but it's still relevant in terms of the cycle.

    The Natural Aquarium

And what happens when you see too many bacteria pockets in deep stagnant substrates?
  14. A

    The Natural Aquarium

You need Father Fish. YouTube him, and it will solve your dilemma. Just pack your tanks full of dirt and let nature take its course LOL. The time you save on water changes can be spent on your wife or exercise etc.

My first steps in creating another green endler hybrid strain.

What are their genetics, do you know?

My first steps in creating another green endler hybrid strain.

How do you influence how a strain comes out? If at all? Apart from the obvious of what parents to mix. Can diet or water parameters play a role, or is it just pot luck and keep your fingers crossed?

    Transferring from a cycled tank

Word of warning. Don't listen to anyone that says if you transfer gravel it can help cycle a tank, It doesn't. Unless you are going from undergravel filter system in both set ups. It's ALL about the mature filter media, and the actual media. Mature water doesn't help cycle a tank either...

    Gravel vacuum questions

Unless you have an overfeeding issue, gravel vacuum has to be one of the most pointless activities, unless there has been a specific problem that needs tidying or sorting.

    Water company replacing pipe

On the list of solutions, this would rank near the bottom. But as a fail safe to a degree (at least for one tank), get enough water ready to do both tanks, but do one tank one day, and use the same stored water for tank number 2 the next day. At least, if tank 1 is okay 24hrs after using the...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Would you say they are no more skittish than normal? If so, that's a good sign in my experience.

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

I think (but limited experience on this) if it's the bad news type parasite that can do this, the fish decline will be fairly swift, a few days or a week. It might get a change in its posture or how it moves like its underbelly changes slightly, but I am speculating on very limited experience...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

I think best to flag these pictures up again @Colin_T as this kind of complete colour loss in Corydoras can be bad news from a parasite perspective, but hopefully it's a stress reaction, or some other quirk

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

I've used flubendazole a few times. A good aspect of it, is no impact on plants or filter bacteria. Just be careful to maximise oxygen/surface agitation with it. That's usually pretty much the only thing that can go wrong. Especially if you are heavily planted, at night on the first day you...

    Dirted substrate

Just read your posts on all that, really good read. Somehow calling it just "dirt" doesn't seem to do it justice, although perhaps dirt is more of an American term? But thanks Over here in UK, dirt just means unclean and is an insult
  33. A

    Dirted substrate

By dirt, do you mean soil from the garden centre? I would guess it's cheaper than the fish store, but would it help the plant growth? Would be a good experiment.

    Family bibles and fish books

I prefer the NIV Bible. Also, next best is NLT and Good News Bible. It is very easy to sin as fishkeepers. Jesus tells us that we need to become like little children to get into the Kingdom of Heaven ,and he didn't mean become like little children in the fish store and purchase inappropriate...

    Test kits (Alternatives to API)

I know you have done a lot of research on the cycling process, but I advise any new or novice fish keeper to very cautious around some of these statements above. In about a combined 12 or 13 years of starting up and maintaining probably close to 100 different set up's (yes, probably less than...

    Test kits (Alternatives to API)

I find that other than API, NT Labs is good for test kits. For me, not having test kits is completely baffling (not directed to you Pygmy), you've explained your difficult circumstances. I'm taking generally. Like somehow water changes negate the need for a test kit. That might work for certain...

    Seachem Prime

Yes thanks, am aware there is a difference between removal and detoxify, but it's a good point as some people don't know, and misinterpret the "claims" of Seachem. I just did a search on here and found this https://www.fishforums.net/threads/seachem-prime-may-not-be-what-is-claims.485827/

    Seachem Prime

Thanks for reply. That's interesting, as Prime is normally the most cost effective one of the lot as it's super concentrated, but not sure what Prime you had. Fluval is normally good quality for most of what they do in my experience.
