    Should i take a punt

And there are some maidenhead aquatics that don't look much better than a pets at home sometimes. It's a tricky choice because whoever you choose to get them from, if something goes wrong, you'll forever second guess yourself. The joys of fish keeping. You get anxiety as well as a nice hobby!

Easiest live foods for smaller fish, particularly tetras

See this is where I struggle. I don't have a suggestion, and I stick with frozen. I don't the like the idea of live food unless I've cultured it myself. This is going to sound lazy, but there there is literally only so many hours in a day. I find culturing live foods to be too much hassle for...

Is my tank ready for more fish? Is it cycled?

Might be the plants that are consuming the ammonia, hence no nitrite and nitrate, as you suspect. Maybe a picture if the tank with the plants might help others here. What is the ghost feeding? You might need a priest for that issue? Or some kind of exorcism if that works on ghosts. Who you gonna...

Reed/Rope fish - eating the others??

Are the x2 rope fish being kept in the 30 gallon tank you have in tank of the month? If so, this is very sad news for the rope fish being in such a small set up.

    What is a tropical aquarium?

Global warming could be a factor. The Ram and Neon issue is a good example. Sadly many hobbyist do not realise they are shortening a fish life and adding stress to the fish by being at 80 F, obviously for some fish this is ideal. Of course, heatwaves are excluded as we know many of the fish who...

    African Blue Diamonds

Flubendazole might suit you Magnum. I can testify that it's plant and filter friendly. Used it many times over the years, especially when I had live bearers.

    African Blue Diamonds

I worry about your tanks Magnum. Seems to be that new, non quarenteened fish are going into your established set ups on a weekly basis. You've got a hell a lot more balls than I have!! Hope these fish pull through, bet they like nice soon if they do make it.

How many people have permanent hospital or quarantine tanks?

I ticked no, but multiple tank syndrome is your friend here, potentially. Probably repeating others here. I have spare tanks in the garden that would just need a quick hose down. I have spare heaters and air pumps. I've got 4 fully cycled, occupied tanks up and running, and 2 of those tanks...

    Bozo, the snail killer???

Yep! I would move the snails around. I know us humans might like to eat out, but I think your clown loach (if he could vote) would prefer to order in his food, rather than travel. Unless you train him that he enjoys being moved around tanks so much, that every time you get the net out, he comes...

    Dangers of live foods???

I know pathogens can still exist dormant in frozen food, but as long as that food is frozen when I take it out the freezer, give it a few minutes, feed to fish, I have a very hard time believing the fish can catch something from that, even if the frozen food has previously thawed before. You...

    Dangers of live foods???

I would only use live food if cultured myself. Feeder Fish is asking for trouble. Just a matter of when, not if. Not directed at you. doesn't matter if they are tetra or guppy. You'd need to QT the feeder for a good few weeks at least.

I’ve been taking a hard look at fish foods lately… are flakes meant to be convenient for me, the fish, or the company that makes them???

Yes, good point. Granular food I put straight into the tank neat (dry). Although might still soak it for fry maybe.

I’ve been taking a hard look at fish foods lately… are flakes meant to be convenient for me, the fish, or the company that makes them???

I soak mine first. Funnel them into a water bottle with tank water and shake them around, and let it soak for between 10 minutes or a few hours, depending on what tank i am feeing. I find they disperse better in the water. I soak all my dry food atleast briefly. Never quite got my head around...

Help! Very high ammonia or false readings?

Faulty ammonia kit. I put money on it. API is my fave test kit, but not for ammonia. I've had problems with the ammonia one, not the same as your problem, but I'm betting you have a test kit problem.

Can I keep a small pleco with goldfish?

If that's a common pleco it's the slowest growing one in history! I think the vast majority of plecos are not suited for non tropical. I think you should maybe post a photo and someone better than me can ID the fish. I doubt its a common pleco if it's 2 inches after a few years. It may even be a...

I really like this food, as part of my varied staples...

I thought "fish meal" as the main ingredients is bad news? Isn't that just the cheapest ingredient that better companies don't really want in their product? I think Hikari are considered one of the "giants" of the fish food world but their ingredients are just trash as they seem to use this fish...

    Well this seller is opinionated….

I think there are two issues here 1. Acclimatisation when purchasing fish online 2. Acclimatisation from elsewhere, when the fish has not been in transit for long. If they have not been in transit for long, perhaps less than an hour or two in the bag, the drip method is probably fine, and in...

Trying a “no cycle” start up on this next tank…

Good point. Its like any hobby/passion, you take obsessives (us) and there is money to be made by industry. If you want extra muscle, there are a 10,000 supplements for you, same if you want to lose weight. Ph up, pH down, never mind if the pH swings kill the fish, if you have the money you can...
