🐠 TOTM VOTE NOW - November 2024 Tank of the Month Contest (31 gal and larger)

This aquarium is 72 inches long 24 inches high and 24 inches wide. It has 8 orange/brown cameta wild caught discus; couple of wc blue rams and a hefty school of 20-30 cardinals tetra. Also if you look with a flashlight under the drift wood you might spot the L397. They have been in this aquarium...

How many of you measure the temperature of the water when performing water changes?

The more complicated we make things the simpler they become.

will Red, & Green line, Lizard Tetras interbreed, if both are in the same tank???

I guess that is the question asked; but i think the better question is CAN they interbreed; while i don't know the factual answer my guess is yes given they are both in a small genus. The only place i could find selling them is $8-$12 range when they have them in stock (that's per fish)...

    What are you doing today?

Naw - at 22 you should be lugging those 40 gallon pails of water without any issues ;) Being an old timer i put my 40 gallon on wheels so i can just roll it !

    What are you doing today?

The western actor i like the most was Robert Duvall - he's 93 and still acting. The two movies i'm thiking of were open range and broken trails. I think broken trail was the better of the two. Oh well. Been a while since a good space movie; gravity was cocky in a way but pretty good - would have...

    What are you doing today?

Yea i really liked the shootist; though at the time when i first watched it I wondered if it was a reflection on his real life; at least with regards to health. The remake of True Grit is actually pretty good though there are elements of both movies i liked - the little girl did a much better...

Another fish too big for your bath tub…

Not funny; they do that all the time with red tail catfish; which is a fish commonly sold to folks who buy 10 gallon aquariums ;) Which by the way can become too big for your bathtub at over 5 feet.

How many of you measure the temperature of the water when performing water changes?

Yea i learned the hard way about 8 years ago; killed my favorite pair of rams doing a water change during the winter and after that date i always pre-heat the new water to the tank before putting it in. Of course despite doing that then 2 years later we had a 20 hour power outage that killed my...

    29 for apistogramma lineta

Small update - i picked up these three spiders but don't really like any of them: I added these fishes: (to be precise - i swapped the sponge fitler with a mature one and then added those rascals - 4 'common' oto; 8 Brevibora dorsiocellata and 6 Paracheirodon axelrodi; the p. axelrodi were...

    Snails NEEDED!

So - off topic but i think we should have a contest - who can eat the most snails; your puffers or my loaches ;) I'll pit my army against yours any day of the week. Gotta warn you my army is very large but to an extreme lack discipline or predictability ;)

    Angel fish

I can sex MY angels from photo because i know the male/female trait for MY angels. However for a random angel i'm only right about %75 of the time - there are certain traits like thickness in lower region; hump in the head overall size but a lot of it is genetic so with the right gene a female...

I just discovered I've never kept a Corydoras

Yea but don't they have like 1000 ending for gender based of a gazillion different rules. Hum what is 1000 * gazillion? Well a lot - i could never keep them all straight and vaguely to make things worse i think there are a few exceptions thrown in to keep you on your toe. ae us am arum is...

I just discovered I've never kept a Corydoras

Good god who in their foolish way changed the names of all these fishes. I remember just other day i wanted to read about a dwarf cichild and some idiot changed the name of the fish. Can we please stop changing the name of fishes? Having said that i've kept under this new crazy scheme that will...

    New tank 😊

That is a nice scape; as for larger being better - i find that most people put too many fishes and not enough plants in their aquariums ;) The only problem with plants is they grow and grow and never stop growing and soon you need an even larger aquariums just for the plants :(

    What are you doing today?

Been a long day; no clue what i did but it has been a long day - right now i'm trying to relax but my angels are trying to breed and the 'baby' chocolate just finds the eggs too yummy. As angelfishes go this pair is a really nice pair and i'm thinking if i could catch them i could move them to...

    Nitrate levels

There are way to filter out nitrate; i don't know what they are but given that you live in florida; the best suggestion i can come up with is move to colorado where the water is mountain pure ;) Also the air is nicer and the humidity is a lot lower. Colorado is the place to be not florida...

What to do when all your fishes hide under a leaf ?

The background is black - it was mostly to put there to block stray light that was causing algae. The cory do come out when i feed them but not the green neon. I did just order 6 more to see if more make them more friendly ;) Of course it begins to beg the question just how many fishes can i...

What to do when all your fishes hide under a leaf ?

I've posted this picture before so it is nothing new but despite obvious appearance this aquarium has close to 30 fishes in it: It is rather dim (maybe i need more light so they know it is day?); and if you shine a light under the leaf you might see this: They tell you that you should...
