    Sandstone and Limestone

I want to know the same. As well as what minerals will leach into my water but nobody can give a good answer. I basically just got flamed for asking about adding sandstone or limestone. I'm sure it's safe to put in a tank to a certain degree. If you monitor the water regularly in the tank and...

    Sandstone and Limestone

I try to keep my ph between 6.8 and 7.0. General Hardness is around 60-70ppm. Temp. is kept at 78 degrees. I have them in a 30 gallon tank with 1 crazy plec, 1 anti-social spastic weather loach, 1 younger punk silver dollar, 5 female guppies, 5 black tetras, 1 albino corry, and 1 julli corry...

    Sandstone and Limestone

Oh yeah I take great care of them. My mom had them for about 5 years and she gave them to me about 3 years ago. Here's some pics. Hope they work. This one's beautiful. Never seen one with spots like mine has. This one's a real bruiser, about 6" long maybe more. Bites my fingers if I put them...

    Sandstone and Limestone

Ok you guys talked some sense into me. I'll quit being cheap and pay for some safe rocks. I'd hate to kill my silver dollars. Two of them are pushing 8 years old now. Thanks.

    Sandstone and Limestone

[Why would you consider putting something in your tank that you yourself admits knowing isn't good to put in the tank?] That's why I asked the following : [What minerals will these rocks leach into my tanks? Will they be harmfull to my fish if I do regular water changes?] I would like to know...

    Sandstone and Limestone

I know the two aren't good to put in a freshwater tank because they with leach minerals into the water but that seems to be all I have around here. I refuse to pay for rocks. What minerals will these rocks leach into my tanks? Will they be harmfull to my fish if I do regular water changes?

    green water!

Hood is made of plastic. I even thought it might be poor filtration so I added an additional filter and that didn't help. I removed the fish this morning to another tank. Right now the 10 gallon looks like a tank of melted green jello. I'm stumped.

    green water!

I've been having major problems with one of my tanks. I have a small 10 gallon tank with 5 black tetras, 1 cory, 2 chinese algae eaters and 2 guppies. I never had a problem with the tank, it's been up and running perfect for over a year. About 3 weeks ago I removed three plants, all lillys, and...

    Silver Dollars

Just thought I'd try to post some pics of my dollars. In case you havn't noticed by my name, I happen to like them. This one's around 7 or 8 years old and my favorite. This one's also around the same age. I love his spots. This one's the young punk of the bunch. He's about 4 years old now.

    Silver dollars

As you might be able to tell by my name I just happen to like silver dollars. The colors in these fish as they mature can be quite beautiful. This one's estimated at around 8 years old now. This one's around 8 years old also. This young punk here is about 4 years old.

    Ouch!

He bites hard but it doesn't hurt. If his teeth were bigger then I don't think I would let him nibble on me. I hand feed him too. I'll get some pics of that also.

    Algae discs

I had the same problem with my silver dollars stealing all of my plec's algae discs so I went out and bought a cave with openings on the top. I use a 15" clear tube and drop the discs right into the cave so the dollars can't get them. Here's my plec and his happy little home.

    Baking Soda

I've been using baking soda for years now to raise the Ph level in my tanks. My mom told me to use it years ago and it seems to work really good without any problems. Anyone else use it? Just curious if anyone has any input on this.

    Gourami

Yeah my loach is definitely one of my favorite fish. Great character! I had 2 albinos but one died. The one I have now is about 4 years old and he's not gonna live much longer. All of his fins are falling off. I don't know if it's old age, disease, or if someones pecking at him. It doesn't...

    Gourami

My kisser shares the tank with 3 large silver dollars, plec (not sure of species), weather loach, penguin fish, and an albino cat. He usually keeps to himself but gets a bit nuts sometimes and chases everbody and tries to kiss the life out of them. Gets very territorial sometimes.

    Gourami

Proud Gourami owner here too! Here's a pick of my kisser. He/she is between 6 and 7 inches and somewhere around 5 years old.

    What are they doing?

I have three silver dollars in my 30 gallon tank and I think they're all males. They do this weird thing. They swim side by side almost touching each other and they shake and shudder while they're swimming. What are they doing?

    I have creatures!

Thats what I have! Good pics! Yeah I thought they were some kind of shrimp or something. I had a bunch of live plants in the tank a few months ago then my silver dollars ate them. They must have been intoduced into the tank from being on the plants. Thanks a lot for the info Mogo.

    I have creatures!

That sounds like what I have Mogo. They range in size from barely visible to almost half a centimeter and they shoot around in short spurts. I havn't cleaned the gravel for almost 4 months so I'm sure I have a large population of them.

    I have creatures!

I was doing a 50% water change on my 20 gallon tank today and when I looked in the bucket that the water was draining into I noticed dozens of things darting around. Upon closer observation there must have been at least a hundred or so of them in the water. They're greyish white in color and...

    Buggy Eyed Gourami

I read today that it could be a sign of tuberculosis and the fish should be removed from the tank and put out of it's misery before it infects the other fish. Any thoughts?

    Buggy Eyed Gourami

My four year old Kissing Gourami has developed some buggy eyes. They seem to be protruding rather far lately, looks really weird. It seems to be able to see ok but is it some kind of bad illness?

    ick won't leave my plec

Well I just got home about an hour ago. I got off work and stopped at the local pet store before I went home and pickup some Maracide. Well anyways I got home and to my amazement my fish have cleared up quite well since this morning. Seems that the Malachite Green is working after all, just...

Thanks for the reply Danny. I'm gonna go pick up some Maracide tomorrow and give it a shot. Seems to be the best medication since a number of people have mentioned it to me.

    white spots

I'm having a heck of a time getting rid of the ick that's attacking my dojo and my pleco as indicated in my post( ick won't leave my plec). I've tried a salt treatment and I'm on my second type of ick medication which doesn't seem to be working either. Both fish are small scaled or scaless...
