    Fish Collecting Holiday

I've spoke to quite a few people who go on collecting trips regularly in the Honduras. They love them, but you won't see many discus there :D

    Selling Hybrids?

Even if you do sell them to other people who won't breed them, they could end up getting passed on again, to someone who doesn't know they are hybrids. Or someone just trying to make money. I don't agree with hybridization personally, though I know it happens occasionally in the wild, I think it...

    Egyptian Mouth Brooders?

I have two of these kept separately, as when they breed the male beats the female who can no longer hold her own. This is why you should keep more females to males, as you've suggested you will. I'd recommend something like a 30g for 2 males, 6 females, lots of plants, fake or real, to give the...

Deep Sand Beds In Discus Aquaria?

Testing nitrate without a digital testing kit is often wrong. Water changes only work if you have a low concentration of nitrate in the tap water. Though you can always use RO water if you wanted.

Deep Sand Beds In Discus Aquaria?

Are you talking about doing this in a sump on the tank? There's no real reason against it. Personally I'd go for plants to export the nitrate. Hydroponics in the sump could work very well if done correctly.

    Who Laid The Eggs?

Bumble bee gobies usually lay in shells/small caves so I doubt it was them and danio eggs don't stick, the are just scattered over the substrate normally. Otto's I don't know about.

But surely taking them off Google is infringing copy right as well.... The picture I showed is water marked so I'm not claiming it's my own and you can view where it came from by viewing the image.

What Are Those Cute Litte Aficans That Hide In Shells?

How easy they are to get, depends on where you live. Where I live they are very common for example.

The behavior would suggest breeding, just give them a little time. Do they have any spawning sites?

    Discus & Angel

Are you sure of those dimensions are 150cm sounds very tall... As Kribensis12 said the discus shouldn't be kept alone, so personally I'd stick with the angels. As the tank is not big enough for discus.

    Stocking Ideas!

You do boil/soak the wood before using it, or possibly add carbon to your filter. As for the lights, it all depends on what plants you want to use.

    Can Anyone Id Ths Fish?

Looks like an unhappy pearsei, Herichthys pearsei. The patch of brown on the low body is what makes me think pearsei, but it doesn't have the nice yellow colouration of most.

    Green Terrors

I'm not that sure about it either. They may have been able to source them before the ban? But they do sell them very easily, they are highly wanted. On the difference between the gold saum, silver saum and wild green terror, if you do a quick google search it brings up multiple items. But they...

    Firemouth Questions

If you're worried for the fire mouths safety add hiding places which are only small enough for it to fit in. Tubes which the parrots and sevs are too tall to fit in would be a good idea.

    Green Terrors

I know a lot of Americans with true GT's, breeding them and selling them on, not too sure on them in the UK however, could probably source some if you tried hard enough and wanted them enough.

Why You Shouldn't Buy This Fish

There was an interesting thread on this forum, months ago now, which went into details of how fish release hormones into the water which build up and stop the other fish growing. Well it was along those lines at least. I never said it was a good idea, I think it is wrong personally. We should...

Why You Shouldn't Buy This Fish

Stunting isn't quite a myth, you can stunt a fish can you not? Then stunting is true? Would you class stunting as no growth at all then or just little growth? Keeping a fish for 3 and a half years and it growing to only 8 inches, could be classed as stunting, it has not grown to the size it...

    What's Wrong With Him?

With a lack of oxygen fish would be likely to go to the surface of the water and "gasp", not go to the bottom of the tank and hide.

    Pink Convicts Had Babies

The fry I removed from my sajica and fed more on flake food, grew slower than the ones the adults fed on normal pellets. The adults will do a fine job feeding the fry on what you feed them.

    Ideas For 4ft

Giant Gourami get too big for a 4' tank, they can exceed 2' in length. Even if the tank was 15" wide I would also rule out the Oscar, Jaguar and Midas, along with possibly the RD depending on your own judgement.

    My Fish Panic

How long have you had the fish? Normally fish will come and "greet you" because they are hungry, I was going to suggest cutting feeding too see if they would come out more "in search for food". Could try some floating plants (live or plastic) too see if they like it in the shade. The...

Ok So Its Not Just A Pike Forum Anymore.

I see no real need for any sub forums. If we did, I'd go for splitting it into CA and SA cichlids before considering splitting it into the sub forums you suggest.

Blue Jack Dempseys and Yellow Oscars

They aren't found in the wild no, most Oscars you see aren't from the wild. You'd be unlikely to find a wild albino for example, but there are thousands of those in captivity. The yellow Oscars are just line bred fish.

    Can I Add An Angelfish?

I understand this and I understand what you mean. Nitrates are hard to keep low in most cases though, especially if the tank has no plants or algae, and especially if the tap water used for water changes contains nitrate. After further discussion with the author of the article I quoted and...

    Breeding Set Up.

Fry tanks I would (do) keep as simple as possible. Simple sponge filter, heater and light. Nothing else, not until they get some size at least, then a few decorations/plants, but no substrate. This setup makes for easy cleaning. If you want the adults in with the fry, then you will want to fill...

    My Fish Panic

How often do you feed the fish? How bright are the lights? Could anyone else, say a child in the house, be scaring the fish without your knowledge? What sort of setup is it, plants, bogwood, rocks etc.? How long have you have the fish? To be honest the fish you have aren't really the most...

    Can I Add An Angelfish?

But that's not the "only reason". From the link I provided earlier in this thread- Yes, some people do have some success with mollies in fresh water, there are many factors which come in to play though. Personally I wouldn't keep them in fresh water, there is quite a high level of risk for...

Blue Jack Dempseys and Yellow Oscars

Define fake? Yes, you wouldn't find either in the wild but they are not dyed, they are just line bred, like all the different colour guppies you see.

    Pink Convicts Spawning

Depends, what you feed them, how much, how often, water change schedule, temperature, genetics etc.

    Pink Convicts Spawning

If the LFS will take them or not depends on the LFS, there aren't many that will take convicts usually. As for the size, ask the LFS what size they will take them, it's normally around 1".

    Tank Looking After Itself

But what about all the other organic compounds you do not test for? How do you they are fine? Water changes also remove anything that reached the tank through the atmosphere: smoke, aerosol sprays etc. which can build up if the water isn't changed. Well compounds will build up in a tank, when...

    Can Discus Have Ich?

The reason people recommend upping the temperature when ich is present is to speed up the life cycle of it for medication to be able to affect it, is it not? The high temperature is not when kills it. Also you can't guarantee that as you didn't mention quarantining new arrivals, that is where...
