I'm sorry but the logic is not getting through to you. If Maracyn2 treats dropsy and gram negative bacteria then that bacteria is what's causing the dropsy. If that bacteria is causing dropsy then it's a pathogen. Does that compute? Nobody cares about stupid "good" bacteria in this scenario so...

How many bettas have died in your care from disease/sickness? I've never had any betta die from illness. BTW a disease is any illness caused by a pathogen. Bacteria IS a pathogen.

If you can't cure dropsy then why does Maracyn2 list dropsy as one of the diseases that the medication is used for on the label? When people get cancer does the doctor recommend they be killed because there is no cure? Maybe you should contact some LFS and see if they have any medication that...

Bettas should be kept in 2 gallons and up. Bare minimum is 1 gallon but they won't be able to swim far without having to turn around. From my experience bettas that are allowed to swim a lot seem to be healthier. Bettas that are kept in small containers normally just sulk or swim very little.

Why not use Maracyn2? Killing your betta is not a cure.

Well if you're feeling adventurous you can create one of these. It's "only" 2 gallons but it's planted, heated, filtered. :hyper:

You should use NovAqua from the same company that makes Amquel+ since it doesn't interfere with medications. Amquel+ affects some medications making them less effective. If your tank is already cycled you shouldn't need a nitrite remover like Amquel+ and to remove nitrates just do water changes...

Tiber barbs are not always as agressive as some may think. None of my Tiger barbs attack any of the fish in my community tank and that includes a betta, cherry barbs, gold barbs, angelfish, dwarf guaramis, platies, swordtails, guppies and minnows. I'd say try it out and see.

Then you will need to change the substrate when you do because plants and sand don't really mix too well. I guess you could get away with a 60/40 mix of gravel/sand. That would keep your plants and cories content.

Training bettas for fights is actually pretty interesting from what I've read. There's even a technique where adding almond leaf extract to the water during the training allows the fishes scales to become hard and strong for protection.

I think if you're not planning on getting more plants, sand by itself will be fine. I would keep the layer thin though 1cm max.

White bettas are not albino. :lol: Albinos are flesh/pinkish. Cambodian bettas can be considered semi-albino.

I think the important thing to remember here is the size of the tank. If the tank is small then you won't be able to use a filter because it won't fit so you don't really have a choice, therefore you will have to do water changes more often to keep the betta happy. Then again if the tank is too...

It's not a lot over a time span of several hours, but it's a pretty drastic difference in the few minutes it takes to refill the tank.

I don't think there is a rule for shrimp. I made up my own rule 1" of shrimp = 1/2" of fish. I think shrimps eat and poop far less than fish per inch.

Malaysian DW usually sinks without the need to soak or boil.

The temp drop can be pretty drastic actually. My tank drops 5 degress F with 30% water change. It really depends on how cold the replacement water is. My replacement water is around 65F.

If you're lucky and have a large tank, you can put many kinds of fish together with a male betta. Platys, dwarf guaramis, cherry barbs, minnows, tetras and even guppies.

Get an RO unit and some big plastic trash bins to hold the filtered water. All of my betta tanks use RO water and the bettas seem to enjoy it building nice bubble nests whenever I do a water changes. I use a little aquarium salt too.
