I am thinking of getting some pearl gouramis.After reading on here it seems 2f, 1m would be best. We have a 260l planted tank with 6 denisons barbs, 4 platys, 2 mollies ,2 albino corys and a pitbull plec. It is a very peaceful aquarium. Will the gouramis be ok in there?

Great tank, what are the blue fish with red fins...are they dwarf neon rainbow fish? If so where do they tend to swim...more middle or top...thinking of getting some....they look gorgeous!

My mollies prefer the catfish stuff so now don't even bother with the lure of flaked food - they go straight for the algae wafers / catfish pellets. The corys do get a bit a look in and spend all day hoovering -with twice weekly bloodworm or daphnia where everyone gets plenty!

Thanks Miss Wiggle. I don't want to stock to 2 inches but just doing a bit of planning . We only plan on having peaceful fishies..have enough bickering from the 2 excited kids! Have discovered that fish are very therapeutic as they all look so happy wandering around the tank so wouldn't want to...

Do you have any plants...they use some nitrate, also what is your tap water nitrate readings...this can have a great influence on your tank nitrate.

There is a lot of reference to this on the forum .Some say it is 1 inch per us gallon for the first 6 months then 2 inch per gallon. Is this correct or should you stick to 1 inch per gall. ...or go midway to 1.5 inch per gallon. Just wondered what the general consensus was?? I know it depends...

Thankyou so much Bloo and xingumike. I have already got bog wood in so hopefully pH will lower a little. Checked out the L204- looks great and does indeed fit the bill. They even appear to have one in stock at our LFS. If it is still there in 2 weeks when the tank is ready we may go shopping!

Thanks for your reply Sanj, yes we do have a juwel filter which as I said gives good surface turbulence. Happy days. Our tank has been testing negative for ammonia/nitrite since swapped from our smaller tank.Now 2 weeks so will get some tomorrow. :good:

Yes even in the tank it remains 7.5 to 8. Though only had fish for 3 months - does it lower over months or years. Looks like I won't be able to have a small plec then....very depressed now!!

The lfs said they don't do well in hard , alkaline water either. Anyone out there with same kind of water who can help??

We have a 260l tank and are wanting a plec which would stay less than 12-13 cm. Ireally wanted a leopard frog but our lfs said that they need soft water. I like the black and white colours best..stripes or spots but seem to always read that they like soft acidic water. Is there such a thing as...

I have read that Rasboras don't do well in hard water and ours is very hard (and alkaline)..is this right..it seems that most of the tetra, rasbora and smaller schooling fish prefer soft ,slightly acid water.....such a shame. I seem to be struggling to find fish that are small, shoal and like...

If you NO LONGER HAVE FISH IN then you want to be keeping your ammonia raised not reducing it,otherwise your bacteria colonies will die off and not grow (ammonia is their food). You will need to add ammonia to make them grow. You need to read the pinned topic at top of menu page on fishless...

Seems a bit odd, we have to keep turning ours down with the recent hot weather..its nearly off! Sounds faulty to me.

I have had a juwel reckford and a now a juwel 260 vision.both heaters have been fine and have had to only be on a low setting to maintain temps of 24-26. If it is new I would take ask for a replacement as they do have a 12month guarantee.

We used all new water, same decorations some of old plants and few new plants. We used 2 nets to catch them once we had drained some of the water and we caught them very quickly and easily.

It is fine to put new gravel in.We just upgraded our tank with new gravel but transeferred filter. we had a tinge of green on API ammonia tests for 2 days ,so did small water change and all well since (now 2 weeks). Keeping lights off reduces fishes stress levels.One of our cories who seemed...

I've looked up the dwarf neon rainbow fish...very nice fish which seem compatible with our water...definately high up our list now. Will go and look at some to see how well they shoal.

I assume that neon rainbow fish are different to neon tetras (very stupid question I know). I have heard on many threads that neon tetras seem to die very easily -so have been put off a bit because of that. May be unfounded worry though ,I guess. Also my pH is 7.5 -is this too alkaline for...
