Flicking

I know this is a very basic question but I am not sure what flicking is.
I check my fish a lot (I like just looking at them) but would like to know if they were showing signs of disease.
Just being prepared.

Is it flicking itself against things of flicking whilst swimming...sometimes they seem to get excited and twist in mid swim...I assume thats not flicking.

Flicking is when they very quickly rub their body against something...e.g. a rock. They will do it repeatedly to try to remove an irratant.
If they start to do this it usually means they have something (e.g. Ich/White spot)

Thanks for your reply - so in fact flicking and rubbing are much the same ?

Fish do flick and rub now and then.
Signs of parasites are excess mucas on a fish body and gills, white spot the size of a grain of salt, yellow golden dust on fish.
Always check the gills to see if there pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.

I've noticed that my fish flick every once in a while- they must get an itch.

If the keep doing it it's a sign of illness.

Many thanks everyone...mental note...must remember not to get anymore white fish or hope if they do get something they get black spot instead of white spot !!
