    As said above, if you can get someone to give you some mature filter media you'll be laughing (try asking your lfs for some) but if thats not an option, just keep up on water changes. But usually after a big nitrite spike, things should start to level out.

    Some meds will kill the bacteria in your filter....Keep testing your water during treatment you might get ammonia and or nitrite spikes. Daily partial water changes may be needed depending on your stocking.
