My tank overnight seemed to turn cloudy white and it isn't going away..... I have not over fed my fish, it is not over stocked and all filters are running optimally. Any suggestions? John in NYC

Thanks to all.... It is not Ick!! I have lowered the temperature of the water to 74 degrees and hope that my guys can hold on until I get some medication for the entire tank... The Pleco is gone and 2 tiger barbs are getting a type of fungus on their fins...yikes!!! :hyper: John NYC

My Tiger Barbs are rubbing on plants everywhere, but I don't see any fungus or ick spots..... My Pleco's fins are fraying and has wht fungus on parts of its body.... I am not sure how to treat the Pleco since I believe it is scaleless and the Tiger Barbs show no other signs of distress other...

:D Thanks for the help.... I did buy another NitrAte kit from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals and tested the water with both kits side by side..... my new kit gave me a reading of 20 which I know is normal and the older kit still went off the chart.... So I guess I answered my own question as to...

My NitrAtes were off the chart and my fish should be dead with such a high reading. I then learned, thanks to this Forum, that NitrAte Testing Kits expire at some point and lose their effectiveness after 6 months.... I could NOT find any NitrAte kits that had not expired at 3 stores here in...

I've done two 25% water changes since Saturday....and my NitrAtes are still too high.... I am using a liquid test.... I have never heard of the kit expiring after 6 months.... but maybe that's the case..... I'll get a new kit and test both kits simultaneously. All other water qualities are...

My filtering is fine..... I did go away for 2 weeks. I had a friend feed the fish, but left the maintenance for when I got back, so that may be part of the problem... My tank is understocked, live plants are fine..... Everything else is just great. I did lose a redtail shark, but he was failing...

Thanks, I agree. I'm kinda glad that I've never used meds. Only "Tap Water Conditioner" from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals..... don't use Amquel, especially when cycling the tank, Amquel messes up the water qualities, espescially Ammonia. Thanks again for your advice.. John NYC :flex:

Making 25% water changes twice a day...morning and night....while vacuuming the gravel....have the water Temp at 86 degrees..... resisting adding medication, but can I add salt? Will my redtail sharks (2), and 2" pleco be able to deal with the salt? -_-

I'm sure that my fish have Ick. The parasite appears on a fish...then drops off.... only 2 out of 15 fish have the spots..... I have Tiger Barbs, Red Tail Sharks, and a Pleco in my tank.... So far only the Tiger Barbs are showing the ick...... I've raised the temperature to 88-90 degrees hoping...

I just set up a quarantine 5.5 gal tank with no gravel, a heater, and a filter that I kept in my main tank until it was cycled.... then put my new fish in the Q-Tank for 3 weeks...all was well with the fish, so I transferred them to my main tank.... I broke down the Q-Tank, rinsed the filter...

I have tiny white worms in my tank... I notice one little thin worm when I bought 2 live plants for my tank..... And Now I see more of them, I see them floating around in the water. Does anyone know about this?.... since they seem to be multiplying, are they harmful to my fish? I sure they...

I know statistically you are correct, but my readings are as I stated....my nitrItes are high....and my NitrAtes are evident.....I have yet to check my water qualities today after a water change yesterday, but will be on the look out for this as a possible problem if it hasn't changed...

Wow that's great that you got all of that driftwood for $20.00. I got only one piece here in NYC and it was $20.00. I only soaked my driftwood.. it did not tan the water, but it did pull my ph way down to 5.0.... the reading color was a solid yellow. Is there a way, by boiling or some other...
