What Kind Of Tetra Do I Have?

Two of your pictures :good: I think it might be the White Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi). It's a colour variation of the Black Skirt (Widow) Tetra, so both fish require identical care. Plenty of caresheets online if it is what I think it is, so good luck! Gavin PS You might want to...

    A Few Pictures....

I'd agree with the black background. Don't paint it though, might get a bit messy. I'd recommend some heavy black craft card, something like this All the best and good luck! Gavin

    Is This Wood Ok?

Wild-collected specimens can always carry parasites. I'd recommend sunning it for a few days and then submerging it in boiling water for several minutes. Once that's done, submerge it in a large pail to check for tannins escaping or to see if it's rotting. My 2p worth, if it's wood from a tree...

    Feeding With Ants

Definitely bad info. Ants carry many parasites. In addition, they have a high content of formic acid which is terrible for your fish. I'd steer clear of them and stick with pellets.

    What The Hell Is This?

Definitely a dragonfly nymph as previously mentioned and quite an emaciated looking one too! They can take up to 4 years to reach adulthood (although I think most species have a 2-year nymph stage). I really wouldn't recommend keeping it in your tank. The nymphs have a really powerful 'spike'...

Figure 8 Puffer Fish Help Please! :)

Quite unfortunately, the Figure 8 does require brackish water. There's an informative write-up by penguinpimp1990 here. Seems puffers are quite intolerable of most tankmates, so I really don't think it would be advisable to have one.

    Unknown Creature In Tank

Hi there and welcome to the forum! At first glance, that does look like something from the film Aliens! I think you may have a water louse. They are harmless crustaceans that measure about 20mm. Does it look anything like this? One of the more experienced members will surely...

Time To Plan The Crayfish Tank!

I stand corrected. Excellent advice and coming from someone who is evidently much more experienced, it's a no-brainer. :good: Thanks a lot Raptorrex.

No worries mate, hope everything works out well. Fascinating creatures, these crayfish.

    Elastic Bands In Aquariums ?

Very easy to use and almost impossible to remove without a good pair of scissors. Just fit the tapered end into the hole and pull it close.

    Meal Worms

I've tried this for a tank and to the best of my knowledge, they are excellent food. It's high in protein and the fish absolutely love them. I would recommend gut-loading the mealworms with good food at least 12 hours before feeding. For larger fish like Oscars, you could feed the mealworm...

    Frog Does A Backflip:)

Hahahaha, I'm sorry but that made me laugh so hard! I think the OP IS the kid in the video! :D

    Bettas Head

If it is indeed a superficial injury, I think he should patch up just fine without any medication. :good: A few water changes and time would have him as well as any vet could. If it gets any worse, putting him into a quarantine tank with a small amount of salt would do wonders. Bettas are...

    Leaking Tank!

Place a bucket and catch as much water as possible. Disconnect all electrical supply cables and move them far away. If you have any kids or pets, move them as far away as possible from the leak. Next, try and siphon water out of the tank until water stops leaking. A sealant may have given way...

    Bettas Head

Is it the same tank as in your signature? If it is, he could have got it from a scrape on the driftwood. Alternatively, he might have jumped up for some reason and knocked against the hood or filter.

Time To Plan The Crayfish Tank!

I had one of these in a community tank, but rehousing was necessary as it got a bit 'nippy' in the night. I'd find fish carcasses in the morning and eventually, I caught the culprit in action, taking down a guppy. It would also destroy my live plants (although some have success with them)...

    Brook Trout Close Ups :)

That's a very beautiful fish :good: Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the crayfish make a meal of your plants if you introduce live ones? Excellent looking aquarium, I really like the wood features.

    Is My Guppy Pregnant?

She's most definitely pregnant. The black spot and the engorged belly are tell-tale characteristics. Get ready to be a parent! Unless you have a separate cycled tank, I wouldn't suggest moving the female. What you could try to do would be to get a smaller aquarium (AQ2) that is...

Something like this? Would be an excellent aquarium to start up, IMO.

    Algae Eaters

How about some Malaysian Trumpet Snails? Little fellows will burrow in the gravel and keep it aerated. In addition, they'll gobble up any algae or decaying material but will leave your plants alone. I think you may have a problem with the Barbs eating the snails, but they are really fast...

    Help With Catfish I.d Please

I think it's the upside-down catfish, Synodontis nigriventris. Looks beautiful! Would make an extremely interesting addition to the aquarium! Keep a few and watch them school, it's a lovely sight.

What Can I Keep With Angels

Yeah, they're one of those fish that are taller than than they are long. Mine were about 8 inches in height and 4 across the body (excluding the tail), although they can grow bigger.

What Can I Keep With Angels

How many are you keeping in the tank? 55 gals might be a bit small for a school of angelfish, given that they grow to be about 12 inches tall. Maybe keeping them on their own would be best. Whatever you do, DON'T keep them with neon tetras or tiger barbs. The Angels will eat the neons and the...

    Siamese Fighting Fish(Help!)

Hold the jar up to the light and look underneath the fish. If it's a female, there should be a white spot near the cloaca. Otherwise, it's a male. From the visual view of the sides, I'd say they're both males (long fins, both looking quite decorous).

    Hello Everyone

Hey there guys, been a fishkeeper for the past 10 years (since I was 12!) and have only now thought to join a forum. Great to meet like-minded enthusiasts and I do hope to be able to contribute to what must be an excellent forum! Particularly interested in region-specific set-ups, my favourite...
