New Fish list: 1. Zebra Danios x10 2. Tiger/cherry Barb x10 3. Blue ram cichlid x3 or killfish x6 4. Bristlenose Plec x1 (I'd like two but word on the street is they don't get along well with the same species) 5. cherry shrimp/snails

Introducing fish into a Fish-less cycled tank.

If I went the fish-less cycle route, how quickly can I stock my tank? For example if I need to add schooling fish, lets say about nine Cherry barbs, would I add all nine at once, wait a week then get the next school of fish?

    I read they're about 2.5 inch max....

Could be an option, but they're kinda small, maybe 3-4 would work. The Blue Ram I find more attractive so if I don't get the ok on that I'll probably settle for a few killfish.

The Plec is more a personal center piece (stupid childhood dream), what's important is that I know it's there. I was thinking 1-2 Blue Ram cichlids. The Tank is 1 meter length 43 cm width 67 cm height.

I also read that the Kuhili Loach may eat shrimp. My substrate is a round smooth gravel. Could you recommend any other tetra species? My GH is a steady 8, I've done two tests each came up as 8. I'm trying to give the tank the affect that it's full without being overstocked. So I need at least...

Yep :( Honestly the best would be to discuss the matter with local fish keepers but in pet stores they aren't knowledgeable and there's a small language barrier...

Filter pumping water the wrong way?

Heard the same honestly. But I did use it on my Canisters Priming button and it did wonders. That isn't rubber though.

As far as I can tell Water Softeners are illegal where I live.... I do know that the water here does have a very, very high amount of calcium as the rock here is mostly limestone and our water source comes form a lake in a bed of limestone. This is what I assume offers up the very high KH...

Ok I made a list taking into consideration that my tank is 60 gallons. I reduced 10 gallons because the tank wont be full to the very top and because gravel and other ornaments take up space. The tank will be planted (Not Heavily) and contain driftwood. Here's the list: 1.Bristlenose Plec x1 2...

I went and did another test. PH is the same, GH seems to be somewhere between 8 and KH is between 15-20. It is my understanding that GH is what dictates water hardness and not KH...... Edit: The test kit I'm using is a Tetra test kit and all it says is d as the units (think those are German...

I've been building a list of fish that interest me. Once I narrow them down by water parameters, tank location, feeding habbits and more. I'll make a list of what I want with the amounts as well and then post it here.

Filter pumping water the wrong way?

I recently bought a second hand Jebo 825 canister filter. I tested the thing out and something very odd seems to be at work here. The filter seems to suck water through the pipe inside the canister from the bottom of the filter to the tank. The water that enters the filter, enters from the top...

    Ammonium Sulfate

I'm planning on Fishless cycling my new 60 gallon tank. Now I know that ammonium chloride and ammonium hydroxide work. For me those are a bit harder to get because they're used in bombs so my country has outlawed the commercial use of such items. I can get my hands on the fertilizer ammonium...

I honestly cannot find it anywhere, I only found one source that says the tap water PH is between 7-8 which I find very unlikely because as I said earlier there is a lot of calcium in the water. I'm going to have to wait until I get a test kit.

I am starting up a 60 gallon tank. After it's cycled and ready for fish I plan on introducing fish (obviously lol). I've already decided to get a pleco (childhood dream of mine). I was wondering what fish get along with this fish and with each other. The tank will be lightly planted. As for my...

    Ask Questions About Cycling

Is Ammonium Sulfate safe to use in fish-less cycling? Obviously the Ammonia is bad for the fish, what I want to know is if the Sulfate will negatively affect any fish I add into the water after the process is done. I am planning on cycling with plants.

    Acquiring Ammonia

BTW is ammonium sulfate OK? Because that I can get my hands on really easily. Tim's ammonium chloride is cheap but the shipping is very expensive. Edit: Just noticed you wrote that ammonium sulfate might work. Second Edit: I was wondering if the sulfate will harm the fish? A water change needs...

    Acquiring Ammonia

Sorry to be a bother, I simply don't want to do anything that will harm the cycling process and indirectly the fish. Ammonium nitrate (NA4NO3) is safe and will work on Fishless cycling?

    Acquiring Ammonia

Yeah there's eBay and amazon here (that's how I'm buying most of my equipment as its cheaper). But I do believe any ammonia I buy will be stopped by customs. I'll give it a shot anyway it's only a few dollar and it's worth a shot, not to hopeful though.

    Acquiring Ammonia

So what you both are saying is that ammonium nitrate will work? I just need to find it without any other additives and obviously add it in very slowly. Edit: About the ammonium chloride, I'll have to check in a local pet store about that.

    Acquiring Ammonia

Assuming I get no confirmation about the NH4NO3 I'll most likely go that rout.
  29. Jordan_Deus

    Acquiring Ammonia

Yes that I know and I intend to do. The issue from what I understand is that the water changes may have to be done more than once a day. All this is from reading stuff off the internet so I can't vouch for it's credibility.

    Acquiring Ammonia

From what I understand 5ppm and above causes the ammonia eating bacteria ceases to produce nitrate and breakdown nitrite and ammonia. It can be regulated with frequent water changes but that's just a LOT more work.
  31. Jordan_Deus

    Acquiring Ammonia

The issue with food is it's more complicated to control the amounts of ammonia released. That and fish-in cycling are my last resort at the moment. Thanks for the help, both of you.

    Acquiring Ammonia

My family recently moved to Israel (to my utter shock and horror), from what I gather the reason ammonia is scarce here is because it can be used to create bombs or something. I'm going to ask around in some pet stores/Aquatic stores but I'm not to sure my endeavors will be successful. That is...

    Acquiring Ammonia

Hi, I live in a country where its basically impossible to get Ammonia (I can't go into a supermarket and buy 10% ammonia). It is unlikely i'll find cleaning solutions without additives. I need the ammonia for fish-less cycling. I was wondering if I can use liquid fertilizer such as NH4NO3 or...
