All my rays only have one row of spines, can you explain what you mean? I've got orbygini, yepizi and two forms of motoro and i just went and checked all their tails and they all have a single row down the tail.
I just fed the new ray and i'm very happy to say the little fella is taking frozen...
I'm pretty sure its not one of the motoro varients, i've been searching through web pages all afternoon and he doesnt look like any of them. He was labled as Potamotrygon sp. teacup  and was only £75 so its probably just a varient of something really common.
I picked up this little guy today, he was in a shop i dont rate very highly which has an awful track record with rays and he was so active and healthy looking i couldn't bare to leave him there.
I'm not sure what species he is, possibly P.falkneri, but at such a small size i just can't pin an...
If you are in Australia you'll have no problem finding rainbow fish as most species are Australian natives
Heres some info on rainbow fishes http://badmanstropicalfish.com/rainbow.html
He said he doesnt want Cichlids or catfish so suggesting a SA Cichlid tank isnt helping
African cichlids like the EY you like generally dont mix well with community fish, i'm sure some people have done it but its not normally advised.
There are lots of nicely coloured larger community...
I know nothing about F. rostratus but not feeding fish the day before or the same day as a water change is good advice for many fish. Changing the water when fish have recently been fed can cause some predatory species to regurgitate their meal which can foul the water pretty quickly. In some...
Do you have other older tanks already set up? If you do then you could just move some of the decor from the older tank into the new one as a booster to stabilise the tank until it matures. Mature tanks are all about biofilm build up and nothing can rush that but you can tranfer existing...
If it is a Clarius then it wont have anything to do with aggression, they are just eating machines and will eat every single fish in the tank, its just what they do.
Walking catfish, as in Clarius batrachus http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...p?species_id=90 ?
If thats your fish then theres your fish/shrimp eater, thats a pretty hardcore predator you've got in there, they'll eat anything.
Oak leaves are meant to be used AS a substrate for leaf litter biotope tanks not as part of a substrate and certainly not buried under gravel!
As said by Saedcantas it sounds like the leaves have started to decompose and created anaerobic conditions because the low oxygen levels in the gravel...
It would probably survive in a 30g tank as they are almost indestructable as long as they dont dry out, but i think the moral issues of actually being able to move should be a consideration.
Congo's are great fish, i kept them for many years and bred them for a while too, i'll probably get some again one day as they make great dither fish for shy juvinile fish that might eat smaller tetras species.
Buenos aires are nice too but they are aquatic lawn mowers so if you have any wishes...
I've added an option to not buy one and changed your choice for you shroob, if anyone else who has already voted wants their choice changed let me know.
We all know that tankbusting fish are an ever going problem in this hobby but what happens to all these fish when they no longer fit into their tanks, and how many of us deliberately buy a fish we know will get too large with the plan to buy a large enough tank before it grows ?
I presume you mean Monopterus albus which comes in an albino form ?
They get to over 30 inches long and are predators that will eat anything they can get into their jaws, smaller fish tend to eat things like worms and large insect larvae but adults eat almost only other fish.
But the polls dont lie and the statistics from here http://www.fishforums.net/content/Tropical...stom-Aquariums/ show that of everyone who has wanted a very large tank less than 10% have actually ever built one, and that over 65% of all that voted would only be willing to spend up to £1000 on...
The ideal size for a full grown adult would be over 150 gallons (5x2x2) but in my experience they are slow growing fish that rarely reach anywhere near their full 20" potential in captivity. As a bare minimum i would recomend a tank that is 48 inches long and 18 inches wide, height isnt as...
Just out of curiosity i wanted to see how many people have thought about having a very large custom aquarium built compared to how many have actually done it, and how much money people are prepared to spend on buying a tank without winning the lottery or having a rich relative leave them a fortune.
If i had a pound for every time i've seen someone say they are going to buy a huge tank to keep some tankbuster or another that theyve just bought i'd probably be able to set up a second 900g, i'd go higher than T1karman and say that 90% of monster tank dreams are never built.
Take some...
Feeding beefheart is a method from a bygone age used by Discus and SA Cichlid breeders to speed up the growth of juvinile fish so they could sell them on faster, these days it isn't so popular as there is a huge range of ready prepared high protein foods available which contain fish protein and...
I dont think the store is going to be run as a World of Water branch, they have bought it as an ongoing business and will leave the present staff to run the tropical fish house as they always have done.
I too never disturb my substrates and only syphon off visable detrius and nor do i ever clean the rear panel of my tanks (or the sides unless they are visable) or scrub any decor from the tank. I believe that too many hobiests try to keep their tanks almost clinically clean and as such suffer...
Just yesterday i was asked by someone who is a consultant to the zoo industry if i had room to house some very large fish that a customer of his could no longer house, this guy knows everyone there is to know in the tropical and exotics trade and industry (he did a lot of the behind the scenes...
Hopefully you mean 1.008 and not 1.08 otherwise the fish would be preserved in brine rather than swimming in an aquarium
As long as you do regular water changes you dont need to add anything to keep the water hardness up, the salt will do it for you.
For some reason Miss Wiggles link doesnt work for me, it just takes me to the main index page.
Anyway yes the build up of biofilms is comparable to the maturation of our filters, only its a much slower process and with more types of bacteria, algae and microscopic animals involved all of which...
Its all to do with biofilm. Over time as a tank matures biofilm forms on every surface in the tank and as time goes by the layers build up playing host to larger and larger numbers of bacteria and microscopic flora and fauna. It is this biofilm and the life it is home to that give a mature...
Saying that arowana are as flexible as eels or snakes isnt quite true, yes they are more flexible that your average fish but they can't coil them selves up or tie themselves in knots, they can turn around in a space that is about 2/3rds their body length but with that you are risking them...
