I have 3 tinfoil barbs, 1 opaline, 1 pictus catfish, and a large severum. I want to add a shoal and they need to be bigger ones that will not fit in the mouth of the severum or tinfoils. I compiled this list of ones I am interested in. I am aware that some need a certain ph. Mine is at 7.2and temp of 78F

Any experience with these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Congo
Buenos aires
Bleeding Heart
Red/Blue Columbian
Black Skirt
Diamond

If I am missing any that would work...let me know !

Personally, I would go with congos. I think they are some of the prettiest tetras and also some of the largest. That is what I hope to add to my 75 gallon soon.

Thank you ! That was my first choice too. Only thing is I would have to order them. A 'lil uncomfortable as I have never done that before. I have not seen them in local stores.

Personally i love black widows.

Ok so they aren't the most interesting but they're incredibly hardy and have great personalities.

In my tank, they always shoal too in a nice little group and grow quite fast.

Congo Tetras are stunning although they do get overlooked a lot.
As they become older, their colours come out a lot more.

Congo's are great fish, i kept them for many years and bred them for a while too, i'll probably get some again one day as they make great dither fish for shy juvinile fish that might eat smaller tetras species.

Buenos aires are nice too but they are aquatic lawn mowers so if you have any wishes for live plants then forget them completly.

Bleeding hearts are nice to look at but in my experience they tend to hang in pairs rather than schools which somewhat spoils the effect of having a shoal of fish swimming through the middle area of the tank.

im not too keen on Congos's....id go with Columbian Red Fins :D Nice size and lovely colour when theyre kept in the right conditions :good:
