    Light dimmer?

I can not find one for the life of me. Is it impossible to find a unit or part that enables the actinic to dim to lunar like the natural setting sun and rising moon??? Ahhh!

    Aquacultured LR

That rock is sort of made up of broken shell bits and pieces, I believe. I didn't think I would get any growth out of it. Regardless I'll still use it in another tank one day :) I'm upgrading from my dinky 50/50 to Coralife 2-65 watt (65 watt 10,000K and 65 watt True Actinic 03 Blue) with 2...

    Aquacultured LR

I'm ordering the rock from tampabaysaltwater.com but I will be picking it up rather than having it shipped. It will be out of water for perhaps three hours once I pick it up. Here is a shot of the type of rock I have. I collected it from the beach months before I set it in my tank. When I...

    Aquacultured LR

I'm about to switch out my "beach" rock for some aquacultured live rock. My question is...I have been told that this particular rock produces insane amounts of phosphates. I am adding a new protein skimmer, along with my cleaner crew. What else can I do to prepare myself for the possible onset...

    I'ved got stingray!!

Not to sound retarded, but how many litres or gallons is that tank? I was thinking about getting a tank custom made...a square tank but much wider than your typical tank. We were talking about 3 or 4 feet wide and long and about 2 feet high. I know a guy that works at my LFS who will make my...

    Question about overstocking...

Okay, I should know this...but here I am asking, nonetheless. My boyfriend, my LFS workers, and I all have contrasting opinions on this. I have a 20g long reef set-up. Right now I have a Green Clown Goby, Black Clown Goby, Juv. Percula (my gobies are bigger than it is). My question is...I am...

    Snail identification?

I collected 22 of these buggers from the lagoon and haven't a clue what they are. Before you call me stupid  (yes, I put them in my tank) I know how dumb it was, although no problems have shown...I'm curious what they are. Here is a picture of one of them. They are 3/4" long and bury...

    Domino Damselfish

You could get a Green Clown Goby and a Rainsfordi (Court Jester) Goby! They're pretty and very neat to watch... The bad thing about Dominos are that they are initially soooo friggin cute. I originally bought three. They actually weren't that bad altogether. It wasn't until two of them died from...

    DP not eating

jflowers My boyfriend and I were having a chat about hearing my puffers eat their snails...he didn't believe me. haha kind of cool, innit?

    DP not eating

My DP's eat anything, but like they said above give live brine shrimp or live bloodworms (blackworms) a try...those little guys LOOOOOOOVE that! If you go to your LFS or even Wal-Mart's fish department and ask for the nuisance snails they'll happily scrape the little buggers off the tank walls...

    anemones

And they're the cheapest anemone! One of the LFS's here has a set of tanks where you "grab" three for $6 which is insane, and tempting to a newbie! We bought ours for $8 alone. I almost wish they would price certain inverts and fish higher so newbies wouldn't be so prone to buying them...or...

    Bumble Bee Shrimp

I've been reading that they're good in pairs for nanos. Has anyone had Bumble Bee shrimp before? Are they a nuisance in any way? They're quite attractive and I've been in the market for some fancy shrimp for my goby tank.

    anemones

We're in the process of deciding what to do with our Atlantic anemone. It has doubled in size in just two months...in fact, it is thriving moreso than any other anemone we have. That is sort of the problem...its growth means it's taking over the tank...or it WILL be. We want to add more soft...

can you suggest a puffer for a 5 gallon tank?

I just wanted to add from my experience with DP's that I have kept three in a 5g hex with barnacles for caves. I have had no losses and no fighting. I even had a pleco in their when he was very small, but I needed to give him a larger tank...but they never nipped at him. I would have moved them...

    Mudskippers...

Sometimes I have no idea where to post. I made a puffer post once and they moved my thread here. I figured I'd beat them to it. Agh! I didn't think the puffer/mudskipper idea was feasible. I wonder why that book said that...it was a neat book, but clearly pushing the wrong information...

    Mudskippers...

If you own a mudskipper could you please post a photo of your tank set-up? I'm planning the materials needed and inhabitants and floor plan. I'm not getting one for quite some time, but I want to get started on figuring out what I need to buy and what environment I want to create. Also I've...

    Tire Track Eel tank mates?

He's in a 20g long tank right now. Perhaps later down the road I'll buy a couple of cichlids...I do like them quite a bit. :) Thanks!

    Lighting on 2 1/2" g tank

I have a 2 1/2g tank that I'd really like to have a light on. Nothing special. Does anyone know of a good place to find a lighting strip, tank hood, etc for a tank of this size? I'm having such a hard time. The only thing I've found is this strip that costs $43US and puts out 18 watts...meaning...

    Tire Track Eel tank mates?

He is just about 5" long right now, but what are some suitable tankmates for him? I'm not concerned with adult size because he'll be moving into a much larger tank once we move into our new house so we'll have the room for larger fish. The thing is, I'm not much into the whole freshwater tank...

Can I add Figure Eight Puffers...?

Just to add to the F8 talk...when you buy a F8 they are young therefore able to tolerate freshwater, but as they grow they need to be slowly acclimated to brackish...but yeah, no puffers for your tank. I hate when people say I can't get something, but that doesn't mean you can't set up a new...

    Goby indentification?

Here's a photo...after a few days of trying to get him to stay still this is the best I came up with! haha and I'm a photographer! Sad! From my guess he is a Naked goby. Any other ideas? He's in 1.023 right now and doing fine. He is eating everything in sight. He has also taken over the...

    Lighting on 20g?

What do you think about this light? I'd like a lunar light, too, for any night blooming corals or nocturnal fish. This one has cooling fans, as well. Oh, it's a long 20g so I have 30" of length.

    Clown Goby?

Oh, if that's the case then I'll put a hold on getting one. I'm in the process of upgrading my lighting system on my 20g tank for soft corals, etc. Sounds like a nice fish for that tank :) Thanks!

    Goby indentification?

I've been browsing photos and I think it might be a Naked Goby, Gobiosoma Bosc. The lil bugger is sooo tiny that it's hard to get a good shot of his details, but I'm trying!

    Clown Goby?

Does anyone have one? What are your experiences with them? I am tempted each visit to the LFS to pick up two Citron and one Green. I have a lot of tiny nooks and crannies to hide in for smaller fish. All my LFS has to offer in way of advice is, "they're cute and a must for a SW tank." Not...

    Lighting on 20g?

I currently have a 20w Coralife 50/50 light on my 20g. I have two ornamental rocks from the beach in the tank now. However, I would like to add aquacultured rock and get some nice growth going in the tank. I don't want to house anemones, but possibly a soft coral or two down the road. My...

    seahorse for beginer

I guess it really is up to the individual. My uncle has had the same pair of seahorses for seven years now. He had no prior SW experience, just FW with cichlids. He did his research and waited until he felt he was prepared. I think the problem with most unsuccessful fish belonging to...

    Goby indentification?

Today I went to the LFS and found a small fish in the spiny lobster tank, which was empty otherwise. I asked the owner what kind of fish it was. He didn't know. I said, if he could tell me what it was I'd buy it. He told me I could just have it. Sooo... Here I face the dilemma of ID'ing this...

    octopus at LFS

Species only is right. They love hermits...so I'm not sure what sort of clean-up crew, if any, you could have. I'm assuming it's a Two Spot octopus. If so you could do nicely with a 55g tank. Like previously mentioned, they are excellent escape artists and have a surprising amount of strength...

    Seaweed?

I live near the Indian River Lagoon where we have these lovely "bushes" of red agar seaweed. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with hosting seaweeds for decor...and if we bring some home what precautions we should take when introducing the plants? If anyone has links to websites...

I love that Pleco :) My GSP tank is only a 20 long actually. The picture must be awfully deceiving hehe I like the fake plants to an extent. I really want to get some mangroves growing in there and get a more natural look going on...one day... :D
