    Got the normal gravel vac but the tank is heavily planted and I can't get the normal vac into some spots so I was thinking of making an airpowered one from an old sponge filter then I can vacuum the tank whenever I please an not have to remove water from the tank (cept 4 weekly 25% I change)...

    I don't know what bulbs you are using, but you could always try philips aquarelle, the guy at my lfs has them on his planted tanks, they are quite powerful.......he also only as 80watts on his 55gal but his plant growth is astounding :) beware though they are quite expensive..........cost aout...

    Luckily my female is a dull grey, but the male has striking colours, think thats the best way to tell them apart. The guy at the lfs said you could also tell by the fins but I didn't want to take a chance as they were young and brightly coloured.

    On my hydroponics I cut a small piece of airline tubing and put it behing the washer by the impellar, silent as any thing..........havn't needed to do that to the tanks yet:) I think the small pink fish is a dwarf Gourami, could b wrong though

    Can I just add something here, when I need more light I don't buy fancy setups from the lfs, buy the parts at a local hardware, just seal the base of the light fixture with aquirium silicone so the fish don't get fried :sick: I just fitted a light to my 10g today, cost me R6 for the fixture...
