i always thought most ciclids went for lower pH, rams i think can tolerate the mid 7's but any higher than that i think could be a problem

thanks for the replys! I plan to make a medium planted tank with sand substrate to avoid the plant roots from not getting enough nutrients should i place some gravel in the bottom layers of the sand and toss it every now again to avoid the dead spots?

I dont think i would go for 12 dwarf puffs probably 6-9 of them maybe less to keep agression down. Has anyone noticed that the more space and the less the puffers the more they will pack? Most people that i've read about keep them in a 20 or less gallon tank but i'm sure someone can account...

it seems normal, it sounds like they're determining dominance and i think when stressed the fish will change colors mostly fade give them some time and i bet they'll be colorful again

Hmm, i've heard of others keeping dwarfs with corys. And would 12 dwarfs work with a tank that size? i dont want too much fighting over territories but 12 of them should would be interesting to watch

i definately agree with Bol, chemicals are the last thing you want to put in there, its real easy to disturb the whole thing

i think the moss will get pretty large if you dont trim it , same goes for any plant really they will grow toward and up to the light

Well you might want to stay away from plecs and corys if you plan to make it brackish, they dont generally get along with salt in the water. i'm not sure if loaches are salt tolerant but i think most might be. otos are cheap but again check up to see if they can tolerate the brackish...

maybe stress from the parasite or a drop in water conditions could cause teh color change. Or it could be diet related

I think the only thing another filter would do is give the bacteria another prime spot to establish and keep particles etc out of the water. From the sounds of it if you added any fish they may have over loaded your bio filter and the bacteria need to adjust

i find that usually after they've been boiled for a while to take out all the tanins they will sink after being put into the tank with little to no assistance. If that doesnt work try holding it down with something for a while, if its been boiled and all that it should sink before your next...
