I got some yesterday and I noticed MANY color changes. Like when I was first looking at them in the tank and studying them, they were colorful. When we went to catch them, they faded. When I brought them home three (two females and two males) got all their colors back, but the other male was still not as colorful. Just a little bit of faded black on him, none of the yellows and blues. He was still like that about an hour ago when I left. I just got back and first thing checked on them since they are new. I now can not tell the males apart. The one that had no blues or yellows or anything is now just as colorful as the others. Do they change their colors when upset or something? I also noticed when I was checking on them that the two males seemed to be having a stand off. I have noticed some courtship behavior between one of the males and the females. They have paired off which I read was typical behavior (why I got two males and two females) I noticed that the two females were chasing eachother when the male was near, but a few minutes ago the two males were holding still facing eachother with all the fins erect puffing out at each other. They stayed this way for a minute, darted foward and hit their faces together, then one backed off so the other did too. It was quite interesting. Has anyone else noticed behavior like this?

it seems normal, it sounds like they're determining dominance
and i think when stressed the fish will change colors mostly fade
give them some time and i bet they'll be colorful again
