The Decline Of The Malawi Cichlid....

There are plenty of places in Surrey in the back of PFK magazine....the one nearest to me I would recommend is Maidenhead Aquatics in Morden. have also had contact with a couple of breeders through this website in your area: http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/boks.php hth

    Mbuna Tank Diary

I would say that your plan is spot on, you have added the ancistrus sp. bristlenose first, and you have a pair which is even better! This will help cycle the tank along with the mollies and then in a few weeks when you add all of the mbuna you will be ready to roll! If it were me I would add...

The Decline Of The Malawi Cichlid....

I think that has more to do with your LFS than the area. Certainly in many Surrey and SW London stores there are always plenty of Malawis, and plenty of private breeders that I know of advertising many of these cichlids. I keep tangs, and there are far far fewer of those around....

    Stocking Ideas For An 8 X 2 X 2...

Wow, If I had a tank of that size I wouild definately go back to a big shoal of Fronts. You could get a good 15 or so, and watch them grow nice and big! Then you have quite a few choices for tankmates. You could stay 'biotype correct' and have a few leilupi or calvus/compriceps and catfish...

    Looking Into Africans.

Do you want fish from Malawi or fish from Tanganyika? Or others such as kribs? Why dont you go throught he species list for each lake, and see if there are ones you like in there? THis is a good link for figuring out what can go in a tank your size, and gives you examples for different areas...

    Frontosa

We can certainly agree on that....having to sell mine was one of the hardest things I had to do! :/ Look forward to starting a colony again in a few years though.... :good: For now I am going to try out some Calvus and shellies to keep me going until then! :D

A Tank A Day Keeps The Straight Jacket Away Lolol

lol, no I meant a 180- litre tank!! Although if all goes well I would love to have a 180g again like I had for my Fronts, that was the business! (although a killer to move :fun: )

    Frontosa

I have seen and partaken in many discussions about this on frontosa forums, and there is a large amount of disagreement between many fishkeepers on this. If you are talking about wild caught then I would agree with you to some extent, but I think F1 fish and beyond are much more adaptable to...

A Tank A Day Keeps The Straight Jacket Away Lolol

Hey Mama, Your tank and fish looks great. Was going to ask you about a calvus/shellie tank combo as I am setting one up myself. Selling my remaining Malawis this week hopefully, then will be setting up the 180 for a nice tang combo, probably get some cyps as well as a few Multis or the like...

    Frontosa

Toebash, Sinking pellets are absolutley fine to feed them. And pre-soaking foods is not neccessary. IME Fronts only get float when they are stressed out for whatever reason or water quality is not top notch. (and I had Mpimbwe which are the kind most susceptible) Keep on top of that and you...

    Frontosa Id Please

Makes me think even more that it is an Mpimbwe then.....as you say, the other is clearly a Burundi. This dark one has very similar colouring to what my Alpha male used to have on occasion. Because of the width and lack of contrast in the bars, and the different eye mask ( from what I can see), I...

    Frontosa Id Please

Difficult to tell because the eye mask is not very visable, or the stripes....my first hunch would be an mpimbwe but would need a better picture to be more acurate. These are for sale somewhere aren't they?

Yes a bit of common courtesy would have been good when he didn't turn up to collect my eheim filter on Friday also after saying he was buying it. I had told others it was sold too.... Sellers beware :grr:

I Think My Kribs Have Had A Tiff

Do you really need to move the pair into their own tank? Mine quite happily bred in the main tank and defended their young but didnt injure any other fish.... But I am sure that the new pair plus a few tetras would be fine.... :good:

I Think My Kribs Have Had A Tiff

Sorry to hear about your loss. This happened to me with one pair I had, the male was just dead one morning after being fine up until then (although not actively swimming around with the female that day). I think even if you had moved anything this would still have happened, there was obviously a...

    Frontosa With Malawis

In a six foot tank you can keep a nice shoal of around 8 or 9 young ones, thinning out the males as they grow older and develop. In the first year they can grow up to 4 or 5 inches IME. C.Moorii are commonly kept as they are a similar temprement and size. Anything too active or aggressive will...

I Think My Kribs Have Had A Tiff

I used to find that without other fish in the tank they would sometimes do this. Perhaps putting them back in the community tank or adding a couple of 'dithers' temporarily to cement their 'bond' again will do the trick?? jump

    Frontosa With Malawis

Fronts do best in a group (5+). Preferably with as few males as possible. Others that can be kept with them include plecs, synos, clown loaches, c.morii, leilupi, brichardi to name a few. yello labs have also been successful with some. jump

    Frontosa Cichlids

Yes these are all signs, fin, humps, behaviour etc. But it is just as likely that is is male, you can never tell without venting for sure....smaller fronts often turn out to be closet males that just havent developed because they are not dominant, while females can also be the dominant fish...

    Re-doing 250 Gallon Tank!

A 250g? Wow so many options! Are you thinking Tanganyikan or Malawi? I would go for a colony of 12 fronts (best fish I have ever had), with a smaller breeding group of others, maybe c.moorii or yellow labs, as well as a few ancistrus sp and possibly a couple of calvus.... Are you thinking...
