i have a pari of kribs on there own to breed but for some reason the males is hiding in one cave and wont come out for love no blood worm notthing can get him out he's been there for 3 days now i cant tell if hes ill or just hiding?

Also the female is going in and out of a shell cave she will only move a short distance away and doesnt swim around the tank at all anymore

Have they just had a lover tiff its been like this for 3 days now

any ideas

I used to find that without other fish in the tank they would sometimes do this. Perhaps putting them back in the community tank or adding a couple of 'dithers' temporarily to cement their 'bond' again will do the trick??

Comfort fish, fish that are reasonably active and don't hide, this gives the other fish a sense of security and safeness. Danio's are a good example.

sounds to me like they have eggs in the cave and are guarding them

ive got some fish in my community tank that i could move over, they have always been in that tank but they did have some angels and corys with them

what fish would you suggest i move into the tank from my big one fish in sig

I wouldn't start moving fish around, it sounds like your male is guarding eggs. Give him a few more days and see what happens.

NOT moving anyone gets my vote. sounds like your male is doing what they do...watching his brood be it eggs or wigglers or free swimmers. either krib parent will care for the young.

Ive got some bad news, i came down this moring to check on my kribs and was pleased to see the female swimming around the tank loads,

i the looked for the male and found him lying on the bottom of the tank dead! there is no sign of illness that i can see he does look a bit beaten up so would the female of done this while he was alive or has this happened since he died

Sorry to hear about your loss. This happened to me with one pair I had, the male was just dead one morning after being fine up until then (although not actively swimming around with the female that day). I think even if you had moved anything this would still have happened, there was obviously a problem with him. I would think that his wounds may have been after he died, but you can never be 100% sure.

I guess you can now move her back into the community and see if she pairs with another male? I always found the courtship 'shimmers' fascinating! :)

Maybe a slightly larger 'breeding' tank with more cover will help in the future??

I do have another pair that have coupled up in the comunity tank that i may move i also might move some of the tetras in as well

Do you really need to move the pair into their own tank? Mine quite happily bred in the main tank and defended their young but didnt injure any other fish....

But I am sure that the new pair plus a few tetras would be fine.... :good:
