Ok ive sorted it now. my diy co2 is producing to much!! i finally got hold of a test kit and it said it was to high. Now its back to safe levels shall i reconnect the co2 and leave the air stone in there? As ive got the nutra fin co2 maker and a diy version i had out of a 2l bottle, 2 l bottle...

When i do a water change i have 5 gallons of pure ro, i dont do anything to it, and mix it with about 3 gallons of hot tap water to bring up the temp, that has been treaded for chemicals, and add it straight to the tank is that ok? Or should i be doing it differantly? I thinking of stoping...

Use the the one designed for the perpose the other will not be sutable for plants and could casue algea.

If its a fresh water you want to set up, you should be ok, i have a marine tank in my bed room, due to the skimmer is sooo noisey!!

My lfs had these, but they were £22 each, I dont pay that much for a fish thats not marine or discus!!. They are very nice fish thou.

Ive wanted to have a pair since i saw them in my local, £22 to £25 per pair which is a littler high. Before i do i need to get rid of some of my fish as i have to many in my tank as it is. :*) Good luck with breeding them mate.

I was going to breed them at one time but i never got round to it. they are easy to sex as well, and breed.

i have a 40 gallon reef tank, i used a prizm for years but it was so cr*p i got a deltec mce 600. its fantastic the best money ive spent.

I use ro water, mixed with tap water, my nitrate is about 40 ppm.

I change, about 8 gallons a week out my 45 gallon tank. I would like to do more but i have to fit in water changes for the reef as well.

As above some refuce to eat.

id be a discus cos they are the best fish in the fresh water world!!

I dont know if people still do this but, ive heard that some add a LITTLE bit of food and leave it in the tank, that will cause ammonia and start the cycle. Or you could add one very hardy fish> Maybe a guppy, molly etc.

Im havin problems with my ammonia on my establised tnk, ive got one the ammo blocks you mention. i have not used it yet, i only got it as a last resort. I also got some poly filler and stress zyme. water changes are the best way to go as i was advised on my post, i just wanted an instant fix...

You will not get a reading for amminia or nitrite until there is somthing in there! i would add stess zhyme which is full of the bacteria that stats the filter. The PH depends on which fish you want to keep.

I have a tea strainer (plastic one) and put all my frozen food in there and run it under the tap until it has thawed out. How much you feed depends on how many fish you have. i have a heavy stocked tank and i mostly feed one cube. hope this helps. chris

Ive just got some poly filler, god thats exspensive, £8 odd a go! plus i got stress zime and ammo one. £17 job lot. hope it works. i will keep you posted.

Should i get the chemicals tomorrow or just do water changes? I will not feed until the problem has passed, ive riged up two air stones on full power to get as much oxygen as possible. i have a tank full of plants too so they should help me get rid. what else should i do?

i took out my air stones when i added co2, for the plants. should i put them back in? if i did would it help the fish?

Ive just done a water change and cleaned the filters and tested the water. everything else is fine appart from the ammonia, its 0.25 and ive never had a reading b4. im going to the shop tomorrow b4 work to see what they have. Ive read ammio block is supposed to be good. is there any thing...

The tanks i have now one discus tank and one reef tank, are both second hand and ive never had a problem with any of them.
