    Thermofilters

The green tube arrived today so the filter is up and running again. No leaks so far. The new stuff doesn't fit the fluval tank connector though. Need to come up with a more elegant solution for the return hose. Its just running into the tank at the moment! Shaman Dan

    Thermofilters

After adding in the Hydor that arrived this morning and tightening up the connections I've decided to order some smooth hose! The connectors on the hydor seem to compress the fluval ribs. Good job I kept the Juwel filter/heater working till the new stuff arrives. Didn't even bother turning the...

    Juwel Vision 180

Theres a good topic here [url]http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/265546-fixing-juwel-light-bar/[url] on fixing the Juwel light bar. I had a problem with mine the other day. I wiggled the wire about and it worked. HTH

    Thermofilters

I've read that some people have issues with the fluval hoses but a little bit of sealer/electrical tape  should do the trick! Compared to the internal filters that I'm used too, the 305 is a bit of a beast.

    Thermofilters

The 305 arrived today! Didn't realise how big it is! Installed and working in tandem with the juwel internal setup. Just waiting for the hydor heater. How long should I run the two filters in tandem before switching off the juwel? With regards to the juice used by internal/external heaters...

    Thermofilters

Just ordered a fluval 305 and the hydor inline of the interweb. Now the question is, do I replace the Juwel system in my vision or use them on my new tank that I'm setting up! Shaman

Thanks for the excellent replies. Will have a proper look at the inline & g3 when I get home this morning on my laptop.

    Thermofilters

Just acquired a new tank and I'm looking for an external filter (the tank is approximately 200litres). Rather than having a separate heater I had a google to see if you can get filter/heaters combined similar to the Juwel internal setup. I've found the eheim 2324...

    New Fish Tank

Managed to pick up a new glass tank 40 x 80 x 62 (62 high). I've worked out it's nearly 200 litres. Is this tank suitable for angels? What would people's stocking suggestions be for this tank! It also needs a filter if anyone can recommend one! Cheers Shaman Dan

    Oily Film On Water Surface

I just carried out a water change which seemed to leave most of it on the side of the tank as the level went down. Used kitchen towel to wipe this off then topped up water. Pump outlet aimed higher so increased surface agitation and problem solved!

    Switching To Sand Over Weekend..

I changed over a few weeks ago. Drained the tank right down, removed the ornaments and most of the gravel (the crud levels where astonishing!) I then used a cup to place the sand where I wanted it. Some of the areas the fish were sulking so I left these as gravel for now. Placed a small plate...

    Dark Green Algae

The temperature of the tank is around 25 Deg C. It's in my cellar and out the way of the windows so no direct sunlight. I'll grab a few wider shots later. When I bought it, the guy said it was Cabomba however the other day I tried to move one and it had roots (I'm sure I've read somewhere...

    New Tank Additions

Will have a look at them. Thanks for the replies. This fish keeping business is addictive! Keep going through "phases" every 2 months or so where I start scouring eBay. Nearly ended up with a 7ft tank last time. Must resist for now!

    New Tank Additions

Hi Oops! Yes its a 180l (40 UK Gallons) with the standard Juwel Filter. It's been cycled fully for around 7-8 months now. Yes, after some mid to top swimmers. Not made my mind up yet whether I want another school like my tetras or another centerpiece pair like my Rams. Had a look at Marbled...

    Dark Green Algae

Hi Erm I've been a bit lax with the water changes recently (missed for two weeks!) however I did an 80% change on Sunday. Just taken a couple of pics: The unknown algae (there's also some Green Spot as well!) The wilting cabomba. Hopefully it's just been a case of temporary neglect on my...

    Plant Suggestions

I've got a low-tech setup which has a rather nice Java Fern attached to bog wood (with a few smaller plants dotted around), some Spiral Vallis and some Cabomba. The Cabomba grows like mad.

    Gourami Query

Hi I'm looking for a couple of new fish to add to my tank (180l) which is currently stocked with: 1 x BN Plec 2 x Bolivian Rams 12 x Silvertip Tetras and like the look of a couple of dwarf gouramis. However I've seen advice that as they are slow moving, the silvertips can get quite nippy...

    Dark Green Algae

Hi I've got semi planted tank (Java Fern/ Cabomba & Spiral Vallis). The Java Fern & Vallis is thriving. The cabomba is growing like a mad and I keep cutting the stalks and re-planting but the bottom half of the stalk starts to wilt a little. However on one of the "rocks" there is some algae...

    Fighty Silver Tip Tetras

I've just bought 6 more silver tips to take the total to twelve. They are boisterous with each other, in particular the darker coloured ones seem to like chasing the others for fun however since the new additions have arrived, my Bolivians are much more active so the aggression seems to have...

Help! Algae Is Invading My Tank

When I had an algae problem, I went for a 3 day blackout. Turned the lights in tank off and covered it with a sheet. This removed all the light so the ammonia died off. Then I got some Java Fern which out competed the algae. Brian the Bristlenose then arrived and well and truly sent the algae...

How To Change Gravel To Sand?

Just be careful if adding sand when fish are in because when I initially tried to top a bare spot up after re-filling the tank, the sand billowed out and showered my rams. They didn't seem to mind just one sand shower but if your putting lots of sand in then they may get stressed! Take some of...

    What Substrate

I'll just use a sieve! Fishy, they're the type of plants that'll soon be colonising my tank though I may try ferts as my Java Fern is going a bit mad on the plantlets which apparently is a sign that the main plant isn't too happy!

How To Change Gravel To Sand?

I changed from gravel to gravel/sand on Tuesday. Emptied the tank down and removed the fish. Then removed some of the gravel and placed the sand on top. Hopefully the sand is going to settle down between the gravel to create a riverbed look rather than pure sand or pure gravel. It may need...

    Sand/gravel

I've just changed my gravel to a sand/gravel mixture for my Rams & Plec. It shouldn't send your tank into a cycle as most of your bacteria are in the filter so as long as you keep your filter moist (keep it in tank water when you change over) then you should be fine. There are some good...

    What Substrate

Decided to re-scape my 180 litre. Drained the water, removed some of the gravel and put sand on top. Plants While Cycling.

Plecs aren't an algae removal solution. It tends to be on younger plecs that eat algae and the plec you buy may not eat the stuff! What plec are you after? I'm looking at either an L200 or an L260 (or Both!)

    What Substrate

I went through a fish-in cycle with my big tank so have all the testing gear! The filter media won't be added until needed, but how long can I keep plants in the tank before I need to start cycling?

    What Substrate

How long from filling with water can I leave the plants in there before I add fish or is it the usual fish-in cycle method of fill the tank, let it settle 24-48 hours then add fish? The reason I ask is I was going to leave it a week to get the setup right! Cheers Shaman
