    Bronchis britskii

Well I’m no expert either and you both could be correct,as the shop assistant was showing me all the other corys and I can’t remember.I actually had a look on google and that’s where I got that name from,my mistake.

    Corys are having nookie

Nothings up with them Nichola.I have around 20 corys, but on most days it looks like I have 2. Occasionally I will see most of mine out in the open, but only rarely.Yesterday was a fine example of my corys coming out of hiding, and some have grown since the last time I saw them haha. To spurn...

    sand mud fertalizer

I had the mud under substrate. It was great for plants, but eventually it leached ammonia and caused unbelievable problems. Mud for aquascaping. gravel/sand for fish.

TIGER BARBS DYING--at my wit's end, please help!!!

I’ve had tiger barbs for a year now,and I’ve had a few die within a short time of each other. Each one would separate from the rest, become very lethargic, face nose down and looked rough round the edges. After the first barb began acting strange I tested the water and it revealed an ammonia...

All my new fish died overnight in quarantine tank

They should have sent them in a bag containing pure oxygen, that’s the way we kept fish alive during a long transit e.g 2 or 3 hours.I would be emailing them as a naive customer to make sure I got the truth. Sorry to hear that.

    Anubis growing in pale.

I would say you have hit the nail on the head byron. For some reason I’ve had it in my head they were anubias (well done Colin t for spotting that). I haven’t really put them in the substrate.I will need to do this ASAP. I’ve had them for long enough to remember their species ?. You are 100%...

    Anubis growing in pale.

The plants in my tank are sessiliflora Anubias nana Ludwigia repens Water wisteria Dwarf hygro Cryptocoryne wendtii And the one I have in the photo which I now know as an echinodorus, not an Anubias, apologies for the mistake. I’ve came to the conclusion that the echindorus isn’t suitable for...

    Aquarists and angling

I have been fishing for a few decades now and it has helped me gain a lot of knowledge which I was able to put to good use when I began this new hobby. Does anyone else have a fishing background, and was it the catalyst to become an aquarist?

    Anubis growing in pale.

This is the result of an api test strip. I don’t know how accurate these are,but the ph coincides with the master test result. Maybe this will help find the answer.

    Anubis growing in pale.

Cheers for the replies guys. My tank is low tech and has strong lighting.I decided to try fertz after noticing the sessiliflora was turning a bit brown, which looking back, could have been algae. It is 100% an aquatic plant, tropica 1 2 grow and its been in the tank for over a year. That particular...

    Anubis growing in pale.

These are the fertz I’ve been adding for a fortnight. The plants had a dark algae growing on them, especially the Anubis’s,but my otos have cleaned them off and this is the first time I’ve seen them green for ages, but they are defo yellowing and the main leaves have yellow mottling. Maybe I have...

    Anubis growing in pale.

Could this be due to too much light.one of the leaves was half pale, half green, like a perfect line had been drawn across its width. Doesn’t explain why some are green and others are yellow, though the green leaves are showing signs of yellow.

Do you think that no matter how we try, we still lose fish?

Your right. One day the breeders will want to get fish back to “normal”. The kennel club are moving towards this,as there are too many small dogs with breathing problems. I like colourful fish, but not if it means changing them to suit.

Do you think that no matter how we try, we still lose fish?

Stress and shock play a big part.moving fish from a to b causes stress and putting them in their new home can cause shock.Their minds might not work the same as ours, but they still have minds.

Do you think that no matter how we try, we still lose fish?

I agree,we shouldn’t just treat the tank the minute a fish dies. Fish can be starved during transit or stressed because they are in holding tanks with no cover. A shame really, and the best we can do is give them a good home when we buy them. That’s my opinion anyway.

I introduced 18 otos and lost 7 within 2 days. That’s otos for you

    Easy fishless cycle

It actually doesn’t really smell,I did my last cycle using this method.Forget about speed,it’s about building a strong environment and the foundations for this take time to build strength,in both the filter and substrate.Earth matured over billions of years in order to harbour life, not on a...

    Easy fishless cycle

Ok,so you have got your first fish tank and you can’t wait to get fish in it,but you are a little apprehensive about the cycling process, don’t be,there is a way to cycle your tank that doesn’t involve bottles and numbers. It does involve two other things though, something to create ammonia and...

    Will the fin regrow?

I had a tiger barb with its whole tail missing, effectively a stump.Folk said it would never regrow since there was no tail left.A few weeks later and it was fully regrown.Just leave it be and it will grow back.sorry, not a tiger barb,it was a pentazona barb.

    Oase 400 highline

I upgraded to this tank last year after first purchasing the fluval Roma 200.The main difference, apart from size, was that it came with a dry shaft for cables and an inbuilt filter outlet which is in the left hand corner. This aquarium also has a black painted background, something I didn’t realise...
