Sand and glass

Just a quick one.Can sand scratch aquarium glass if it gets caught in the cleaning cloth/sponge.I ask because I’ve just spotted a scratch(not happy)
 
Yes it is possible, more so in acrylic tanks.
 
Yes it can. I scratched my old tank with sand. It's the main reason I don't use those magnetic glass cleaners now - the kind with a thing on the inside and one on the outside held together magnetically. It's too easy to get a single grain of sand caught.
 
You can’t really see the scratch, once the tank is filled up with water, but it’s still annoying.

I don’t suggest using that cleaner anymore.
 
Yes it’s a pain and now that I’ve seen it..........
I use one of those sponges that has a scouring bad on the top.
 
yes it can and can go quite deep, you can polish it out on acrylic but glass takes a lot more to do.

even the top of the sponges can scratch the glass, just look at your pans from using them
