    Ember Tetra

Has she got rounder since you've had her ? or is she about the same. Female embers are naturally more rounded that the males which are thinner annd more stream lined. It could be that you just have a pair and that she's not actually pregnant.

    Best Place To Buy? (uk)

    Apisto Female Question

Put in a few coconut shell caves as they like to lay their eggs inside these. Put them at oppisite ends of the tank. This will give the females different territories and the male can go between the females and hopefully do the business.

    Apisto Female Question

I wouldnt as the get very territorial when breeding and their would probably be casualties especially in such a small tank.

    Apisto Female Question

They are different though don't know if they all are. Some female species are very similar to other female species though, especially when not in breeding condition.

    Strange Apisto Behaviour

The female under the leaf will probably have eggs and has nowhere else to deposit them. The fact that she's bright yellow means she's ready to breed and the aggressive behaviour is normal if she's protecting eggs or young. Try providing a few coconut caves as they like to lay their eggs in the...

    Ridiculous Algae Bloom!

What i'm suggesting might not work for you but it costs nothing and is worth a try and you will find out in three days. If it works great but if not then try one of the other suggestions. Let us know how you get on.

    Ridiculous Algae Bloom!

I had this problem a couple of years ago and was advised to do a complete black out for three days. Turn off your tank lights and cover the glass completely with towels so that no light penetrates the tank and don't feed the fish. After three days take the towels away, the algae will have died...

    Suggest A...

I asked a similar question on a Rainbow forum when i was starting with rainbows. I was advised to keep Furcata and Dwarf Neon's together as these are more boisterous and to keep Threadfin's with Gertrudae. That's what i did and it seems to have worked because all four species have spawned regularly.

    Naming A Cichlid

I would agree as it looks like my male Macmasteri but they are very hard to tell apart. I was advised that the caudal spot on a macmasteri is like a rectangular shape, while the spot on viejita is more round or oval and the Macmasteri usually has a broader body whereas the Viejita has a more...

    Rainbow Fish

I keep Dwarf Neons and Pseudomugil furcata together in a 36(l) x 12(D) x 10(H)inch tank and Pseudomugil Gertrudae and Threadfin rainbows together in another tank the same size. I took advice from a rainbow forum that said the first two were more boisterous than the second two and would be a...

    Sexing Apisto Fry

I have A.Cacatuoides fry around eight weeks and A macmasteri fry around five weeks, when is it possible to sex these. Noticed that some of the Cacatuoides fry are getting reddish tinges on the fins and some are noticably larger, would these likely be the males, Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Apisto Cacatuoides (Fry Removal)

Just got my first Apisto cacatuoides fry that are now about ten days old. I know it's early days but i've read on a couple of sites that it's best to remove the fry at around a month as quite often the female spawns again and can eat the larger fry to look after the smaller fry. Would...

Does Emulsion Paint Fumes Effect Fish ?

I need to emulsion small sections of the the walls of my fish hut that were affected by dampness but now sorted. I plan to do the painting on a dry day with the door open and a fan blowing. All the tanks have lids and the small sections cut out for the airlines are plugged up. Will this be okay...

    Fish Hut Advice

Thanks everyone. I only put extra wood on the floor to strenghthen it. I have put plastic sheeting between the insulation material and the inner wall. Fish Hut Advice

It's an 8 foot by 6 foot apex roofed wooden shed. I insulated it with similar stuff that you use in a loft, then boxed it in with plywood. I then used masking tape on the joins on the walls and floor and then painted with anti moisture/mould paint. The floor is cushioned flooring.
