Coconut Advice

You don't need to boil it; that'll just cook it and make it rot quicker; a scub with hot water is all you need to do. Sanding the outside fibres off is up to you; there's no need to.

-_- i have been boiling mine for the past day till the water is clear- finally is- so does that mean i wasted my time and have to start over?

I boiled mine as when I placed it in the water, it turned brown, i then let it stand outside for a few weeks, and now its been in the tank for 4 months and it looks fine.

You might just find it falls apart fairly soon.

If you use glue dont do what I did and get the runny stuff as I ruined one doing this, the gel stuff is alot better although Im not keen on the white patches of glue that it leaves behind. I really hope the moss covers it over.

Yeah I noticed that with one of mine. I was a bit liberal with the glue on the first half. I'm hoping the moss will spread nicely. They look great though.

I boil mine to get the tannin out of the shells. Some have been in the same tanks for nearly three years and are still as good as when i put them in. Just need a clean now and again to get little bits of algae off.
