whereabouts on th glass is the chip? top bottom, corner? makes some difference. at the top of the tank, shouldn't be a problem, towards the bottom then it may be. You can get chip repair kits form car outlets. These are supposed to stop the chip devloping into a crack.

for normal stocking of fish that don't have high waste output (i.e. you have normal community fish) then its fine for the job

i think its because the tnak and pump are at the same height. the pump needs to be below the bottom of the tank to work fully. Baffled me for a while why it works like this as I expected them to work faster when at same height, but they don't.

IMHO it looks much better without the internal and seems to have loads more space. Don't know why juwel don't do a cheaper version without the filter. I'd had mine a few years before I took it out though, could never quite justify it other than for appearance. Good luck on the fish research.

agreed, fresh water does more than reduce nitrates :) your plants will appreciate some fresh water as much as your fish

I'm no oscar expert, but have been doing some reading up on them. If you test your water and it checks out ok, then I'd be tempted to turn out the tank lights and leave him be for a day.

you do add declorinator when you do water changes? Just re-read your post. AS the amonia etc is still there I would be tempted to change say a gallon of water every hour for today, this should bring it down without stressing the fish too much. what size tank and what fish are we dealing with?

you mention a new filter, did you run your old filter with the new one for a couple of weeks, or put some of the filter media (sponges etc) form the old filter into the new one. It sounds like your tank is cycling due to filter change. You really need to get rid of that amonia. Cut back on...

yeah, I'd expect with a ex600, a long over drilled spraybar and some flow reduction on the taps you will have great filtration
