    Jack Dempsey Tank Mates?

Verminator, I started a similar thread earlier today. I am looking for possible options to stock my 100gal tank. Would you above list be a good combination of relatively easy going SA cichlids?

    Mixed Community

Hi All, My new 500L tank is due to arrive soon. One of the options I am considering is a mixed community of medium sized SA cichlids. Has anyone else something similar? What would a compatable mix be? Thanks Squidward

    Tank Upgrade

Would the current 305, and a 405 be sufficient? Or would there be too many unsightly pipes?? I am thinking 3 things at the moment. -Expanding my current mixed tropicals -Discus -Lungfish. But I am not sure I want to commit a tank that size to just 1 fish. Mike - think a 305 will be too...

    Tank Upgrade

Hi All, So I am in the process of upgrading my tank. I have a 5 x 2 x 2 (approx 500L) tank on order. I have a Fluval 305 on my current 240L tank. Will a 405 (I think it's a 406 now) be big enough for the new tank? What sort of heating will I need? I think I currently have a 30w (could be...

New Weekly "off Topic" Topic No. 26 (30/07/12)

I am a non-smoker Smokers should be allowed to smoke if they want to. The problem is that it has an affect on the people around them. So I think a ban in public places is not a bad thing. If I want to go out and have a drink, why should I get a face full of 2nd hand nicotine from the chap...

Do you have a Maidenhead Aquatics nearby? They are usualy quite good at ordering in fish. Otherwise, try Wildwoods. They have all sorts of interesting Plecs etc, and they courier as far as I am aware.

    Axolotls With Bkfs?

Neale, Thanks! It is in a 250L tank with plenty of wood hiding places. I do a 25% water change once a week. Diet: Tetra Prima, minced fish, minced prawns, freeze dried river shrimp, frozen blood worms, forzen brine shrimp I have also noticed that it picks on the fresh greens I put in for the...

Channa Fanciers - Wildwoods Is For You

Yup, I am a regular at Wildwoods, and they do have a good selection of Channas, as well as some really unusual oddballs. They aren't cheap though  Even for the more common fish, they can be pricey.

    Axolotls With Bkfs?

Neale, I have had my BGK for obout 3 1/2 years. No special conditions, just "standard" tropical fish treatment. It got to about 25cm and has seemed to stop growing. One never seems to see fish of 45+ cm that one sees quoted. Is that just something due to captivity? Or are these figures...

Anyone Want To Rant? About Anything? I Do.

Sorry to generalise, but when an adult says they are bored, I think they are stupid. If you are bored, pick up a book, read, internet, learn about the world around you. Develope yourself. When a child says they are bored, they need to be taught that they live an awesome World, there is so much...

Anyone Want To Rant? About Anything? I Do.

So Stewart Pearce didn't select david beckham to play for the GB football team. What a fuss this has caused. Has beckham worked tirelessly to bring the Olympics to London? Yes he has. But, does who he is, and what he's done off the field entitle him to be selected - NO If he wants to be at the...

    Sand Vs Gravel... Helpp

I agree with RossC & greggswimm, I am not a fan of sand Sand gets in the filter and can jam the impellor. And also, when you use a magnet to clean algae, you have to be careful that you don't trap any between the magnet and the glass, otherwise you will get fine scratches and will damage the glass.

This Os Promising To Be The Worst Holidays Ever

Aquamaniac, I have young kids too (a 4 year old and a 6 year old), so I know where you are coming from. But even if you punish a 3 year old, they don't 100% understand things. So personally I wouldn't shout too much and make a huge issue of it. I understand you are upset. But I would...

This Week's Off Topic Topic... (14/05/12)

Plastic surgery is not something I would consider. But I do appreciate that their are people (both men and women) who are not comfortable, for whatever reason, with their bodies. And they have plastic surgery to give themselves some self confidence. I don't have a problem with that.

Anyone Want To Rant? About Anything? I Do.

I don't mind the rain. I really don't. We need it, as it has been dry. What is p**sing me off is that the so called experts are claiming that the rain is doing nothing to improve the drought situation. I live in the country. There were huge puddles in the fields near me by late morning. By...

Anyone Want To Rant? About Anything? I Do.

Ok, so a large part of England is apparently in drought. A hosepipe ban has been put in place and we are all urged to conserve water. Mean time there are numerous flood warnings in place. We have had the wettest spring on record. There was some "beardie" on the news this morning saying that...

    Freeze Dried River Shrimp

Hi All, Recently I bought a tub of freeze dried river shrimp for my Reedfish. Only problem is that it floats! :hyper: I've also tried soaking it for a few hours, but it still seems to float. Anyone else found this? Any ideas of how I can get it to sink? Thanks Squidward

Aquariums And People With Mental Disabilities

When I had Malawi Cichlids, it was definately not calming! If anything it was stressful to watch. Since packing them and going for general tropicals it is a lot more pleasant to sit in front of my fish tank. There is something mezmerizing watching the fish.

    Fuel In The Uk

I intended to fill up yesterday. Had 3/4 of a tank, so just in case. There was a massive queue at the petrol station, so I didn't bother. Just heard on the radio that there won't be a strike until after Easter to "create the right atmosphere for negotiation". Personally, I think these people...

Not a good mix unfortunately. Malawis are best kept on their own. And with Malawis, it is also best to stick to either a Mbuna setup. Or one with Haps & peacocks.
