After you posted this thread I noticed my betta starting to the same thing, excpept he has slime on him as well. this morning he was worse and just lying on the bottom and looked dead, when i tapped him he would swim to the top get air and fall to the bottom. his gill area looks pretty swollen...

One of my very active bettas absolutly loves his rock with holes in it, he will constantly swim in and out of them and sometimes stay inside when he wants to be alone. I suggest along with your plants you can also get a hollow rock for him :D

I think a simple solution would be to keep the bettas seperate. This can sometimes be a contraversial topic, but IMO from a lot of things I've heard that you shouldnt keep bettas in a community tank. Its all about the personality of the fish's you keep in there and weather they will respond well...

I think it takes them awhile to adjust to their surroundings, as well as new food, the first 2 days I had my new bettas they didnt eat anything. I heard they love peas so I warmed a few frozen ones up, chopped em up and put some in, they all automatically gulped them up..just to spit them back...

Thank you all for your consoling words. I definetly wont let this one bad experience get me down because I think that bettas are a beautiful fish and I am planning on ordering some fancy bettas and getting a 15 or 20 gal tank with dividers to hopefully someday breed them. I more than agree with...

your lucky that you have a store near you where you can order fancy bettas..im still searching around here for them. I cant even find female bettas anywhere, petco only carries about 5 a month and they are sold quickly, and most specialty fish stores around here are only salt water :(

no i didnt notice any white spots on him, i looked closely for them..he was just spastic flying around the tank and plants, and eventually just started rotting, i know it happens, but it was just sad and I felt bad that he was suffering :sad:
