I get algae in my tanks but it is controlled by the shrimp which i have in them (cherry and amano) also have all live plants. I still have to clean the glass now and again.

Im so sorry you lost baby, he was stunning. I feel for you as i've recently lost 2 of my boys, one jumped out of his tank and the other i didn't expect to last long, he was a present bought from a lfs renound for disease. It is heartbreaking when you lose one of them so quickly or unexpectedly.
