    Swollen Female Dwarf Gourami

Urgh. I don't know what's wrong with my tank at the moment. There's another gourami lying (still alive) on the bottom of the tank. Definitely not healthy. But not swollen like the former...

    Swollen Female Dwarf Gourami

Nope. She was ALL swollen. Just like a puffer fish. Now she's lying at the bottom of the tank. Dead. :-(

    Swollen Female Dwarf Gourami

I've kept tropical fish for two years now (and was helped a lot by TFF at the beginning!) - I've had a relatively successful tank, but recently (in the last few months) I've lost 3 male gouramis - I'm left with 4 females and one male (which I know is not ideal). However, I fed them this...

    Common Plec Question

I've kept tropical fish for almost a year now (but I'm ashamed to say that I've not been here for months and months :*) ) I have two common plecs - both were very small when I bought them, and before anyone tells me off - I know they'll grow to be huge, and yes, I do have plans for them when...

    Tiger Barbs

I currently have - 2 plecs, 4 dwarf gouramis, 8 neon tetras, 4 mollies, 4 adult guppies (and a good number of guppy fry, which are soon to be rehomed via my lfs. I don't plan on any further guppy breeding) - and I own a 125 litre tank. Whilst I was at the lfs yesterday (buying some nice new...

    Separating my Fry

Hiya - long time no see! :D I have question :) I've read Annastasia's (very useful) article and yes it helped. My question is as follows... I have about 23 fry, and today I noticed that I can see some gravid spots in a few of them. I don't want thousands more fry, so I'm going to try and...

    fish keeping and dyslexia

A guy in university with me was dyslexic, and he's now a dentist... :D Just a note to you lazy guys out there (!)...In my belief (and although I'm not dyslexic) I doubt very much that using shortened words and "txt spk" helps those unfortunate people who struggle enough without having to...

    oh dear

This kept happening to me when I started off too. I didn't find as many as went missing. Everything's been fine for months now - but I've managed to lose another 2 last week - never to be seen again... My stock are listed below.

Moving fry - when and how many?

My fry are 3 weeks old now...and I'm getting paranoid that they'll outgrow my fry tank soon. I started off with 21 - but I've moved a few to the community tank already I now have 16 fry in a 5UKgallon (6USgallon) tank... How many grown guppies will I be able to house in this tank? How long can...

    Brine Shrimp Breeding...

Lovely. Thanks for your replies. I've actually raised them on Liquifry (2&3) so far, and was just looking at some of the other stuff they could have. Knowing that it's probably more hassle than it's worth, they'll probably end up having the smallest adults I can fish out, and the others will go...

    Brine Shrimp Breeding...

I have 2 week old guppies (20 of them!), and having read on here that baby brine shrimp are good for them, I went out to try and find some. The closest I got was a box of "Sea monkeys" and "live adults". I left the Sea Monkeys where they were as I know they're 'tampered' with in order to get...

    Guppy having the fry!

Same happened to me - and now I'm the proud mother of 21 fry! Keep watching...or rather, stop watching, maybe they'll come quicker! :D

    Fry/Quarantine/Hospital Tank?

I'm 'fairly' new to fishes...having had my tank up and running (post-cycling) for 9 weeks (ish). I've recently had a batch of guppy fry (21). I had an old tank which I used to keep goldfish in as a child, that I now use as a fry tank. It's only 6 gallons, and I'm worried that my 21 fry will soon...

    Air pumps

I know they're not necessary, but I'm toying with the idea of trying one out, mainly for aesthetic purposes... Do they have any other real purpose? I understand that they come in various sizes/strength...what does this have a bearing on? Is it that the bubbles created by a small one wouldn't...

Whooo hooo! You rock! :D Thanking you! That answers my question perfectly...I knew I could depend on you guys!

    Cory Types

Just a teeny bit confused. I'm aware that there are many different types of corys (e.g. bandit, peppered, panda...) Are they actually "different" or is it just the colouring? AND, if they ARE different, where does the albino cory fit in? Is it yet another type, or is it an albino version of...

    Pl*co Poo

 Thanks! I did think it made sense, but my mother came down for the weekend and stated that my "catfishes were constipated!"...which they're blatently not, 'cause they're pooing! Besides, I suppose having fish with consitpated is slighlty better than having a tankfull of fish with...

    Pl*co Poo

I have common Pl*cos (yes, I do know how big they can grow) who are about 2-3 inches long. But their poo is about 6-7 inches long!!! :D It looks like a long, dark, thin piece of wire. Can someone confirm that this is normal?! I feed the tank a combination of : Dried flakes Frozen worms...

    Cleaning the maternity ward...

Cool. Thanks guys. Cleaned successfully today...and 21 fry are still there - I actually managed to count them! Maybe I can buy a panda cory...

    Cleaning the maternity ward...

I have a 6 gallon bare-bottomed tank, containing 21 8-day old guppies. I left it bare-bottomed so that it'd be easier to clean, and safer for the little ones etc. BUT, HOW do I clean it?! I use a syphon for my main tank, but I'm scared of sucking the little ones up!! Is there a better/easier...

Bigger molly, but not at all square...

Infact, I'm a teeny bit jealous of the sexy molly pictured above...she gets a damned more of it than I do!! AND she gets it from a 'monster' of a man!

    how do you

It's usually got a 'tulip' logo for it. It's a mode that allows you to take photos of "close up" photos...erm...the technicalities of it I'm unsure of, but I know it's good for closeups of small things. It's just a pain in the arse that fish never stay still!!
  28. P

    how do you

Mine's not far off that either! And the molly thanks you for the compliment, Oppositearmor

Bigger molly, but not at all square...

That's what I forgot - I do feed them peas and the occasional cucumber chunk too :D They're soooo spoilt!!! And she thanks you for the compliment too, Wilder ;) You should see what she 'sleeps' with! He's a monster!!! :hyper: I call him Darth Vader

    how do you

I've found that reflections are kept to a minimum with an altered angle between the camera and the tank... These are as good as I've been able to take, myself - And I think, I almost always tend to get better ones if I DON'T use the optical zoom to it's greatest advantage...then using...
  33. P

    how do you

Hold the camera as close as possible to the tank - and at a slight angle. A dark room is better, 'cause then you don't have window reflections in the glass...If you have a digital camera, try experimenting, varying the angle, distance, flash/no flash, curtains closed/open etc...you'll find it...

Bigger molly, but not at all square...

Right, here we go... This one's the one that I think's obvioulsy a little pregnant. She was bought very flat - almost sucked in at the waist! :D And now she isn't. By deduction, and knowing the male's a bit horny, she's well and truly pregnant. And this is the one I've had for over 8...

Bigger molly, but not at all square...

Sorry to be a pain, but does anyone have a photo of a pregnant or a non-pregnant dalmatian molly I can have a look at? If you do, please can you state if she's pregnant or not?!! I have 3 dalmatian mollies - 2 were very "flat" when I bought them, and one of those is certainly pregnant...

    NitrIte's up...

Argh! The reading in the 5 gallon (UK) tank which contains the fry has between 0.25 and 0.5 nitrIte...I've done one water change there already today, and it's a little better than it was initially (0.50). I am very much aware that I need it to be 0, and that it's harmful if it isn't, but how...

    Fry food

Hiya again, I've only just got my first batch of fry too, Mariah, and I've also bought Liquifry 3 (as well as 1 and 2). Now, as is obvious, I'm no expert, but I won't be feeding them this for a week or two (as advised by Annastasia - I think?). Although it's CALLED LIQUIfry, it's actually...
