    Where's My Inbox?

Man I feel silly asking, but how else will I find out  I received an email stating I had a new PM on this site. When I click the link provided, it tells me an error has occurred?? In perusing the site, I am unable to locate my Inbox, so I can't view the PM that was sent to me...

    cokatoo and ram confusion.

pnyklr3 I just have to say, I'm an VERY upset to see you have taken my Avatar pic and signed it as your own. I bought that male Cacatuoides as a fry, raised it and spawned it with 2 different females on MANY occasions. I do NOT appreciate it being taken and used by someone else. IF...

Thank you Zenn :fun: I'm sure it's a Variatus, because I used to raise them  Your's could still be young, as it's hard to judge in a pic, but she looks most similar to these, just with a High-fin http://www.fish2u.com/lgstrawvar.html You can see more Variatus here...

    Interesting platy types

Actually the first one was a Variatus....it may well be a Strawberry Variatus, but it's still a Variatus. I've owned a few, neat guys. Sorry you lost it :( The second is a Red Wag Plumetail. Nice color :)

Need baby-safe cleaners for my Endler tank

I have my Endler's in a 20g and keep Amano Shrimp in with them. They don't bother the fish, or vise versa, They do a great job on the algea and also clean up any leftover food. That's my recommendation :D

    How to get free tanks

I just got my second FREE 55g  I scan the classifieds every week, whether I need something or not :P I spotted an ad that said "Misc. FREE. Golf Clubs, Futon, 60g Aquarium w/Stand, LOTS of stuff, Bring a Truck, 1st come, 1st served." I immediately called and was the first. He...

    Wild Guppy update...

Well, I have searched the web previously and have never seen Endler's that look like the Feeders posted in the beginning of this post -_- The pic on top here is very good http://www.mysapientia.com/camera/fish/endler/endlers.html LOTS of good pics of male Endler's at the bottom of this one...

    Wild Guppy update...

Most of the Feeder Gupps in the stores are wild guppies from Trinidad or Mexico, and yes, they look like that naturally. They might be Wild/fancy crosses, or Endler crosses, but they are NOT Endlers. And this is what a male Endler Guppy Cross looks like....not like the ones you pictured...

    clown loaches

It's always been recommended to me to feed them veggies along with the protein. That's why your seeing them eat the Algea Wafers. :) If they don't get veggies, they WILL nibble plants. I feed mine Regular flake, Spiralina Flake, Algea Wafers, Shrimp pellets, Brine Shrimp, Bloodworms, Peas...

What age/size to sex Pelvicachromis pulcher fry?

Spots on the dorsal and caudal fins of females are pretty rare usually. Its usually a sure sign of a male to have spots on the caudal fin. I guess you have a rare female. Do you feed your fry frozen or live food in addition to dry food? I keep hearing people say you can sex Pulchers (Kribs) by...

    My Ram

And, males will have a solid black spot on their side, while females have blue sparkles inside/on the black spot.
  17. M

    krib eggs

Actually, Krib eggs hatch in 3-5 days, and you could see the fry that early. If the parents decide the fry need food immediately, they will carry the wrigglers around by mouth, putting them down in an area with lots of plants/algea for the fry to munch on. "Normally" the parents won't bring...

    New Platy...and new ???....and rams...

Of the Rams, the Left, I can't tell, could be female or a young male. The Right one is definately a male. Notice he has a solid black spot on his side. A female will have blue sparkles in the black....can't see the spot well enough in the other fish?

blue con is in luv :D

Ok, I thought yours looked a bit paler they mine. I bought mine from a gentleman that collects wild fish, but I'm not sure if they are Wilds (F-0) or first generation (F-1)?? If you want to see mine, I can post some pics for you to compare yours to? Let me know :)

    ~*My Blue Ram*~

Yep, but that's not fool proof....my males shows some pink belly at times. :)
  23. M

blue con is in luv :D

Just so your aware....those aren't "Blue Convicts", they are Honduran Red Points. Similar, and will interbreed, but it's like crossing Endler's with Guppies. See this site for more info http://www.cichlidcircus.com/hrp1.html

    ~*My Blue Ram*~

Definately a female....in the first pic is the real tell. See the black spot on it's side? It has blue sparkles in it, which denotes female. Males have a solid black spot w/out the sparkles. HTH :)

    Siamese Algae Eater Compatibility

Just so you know, SAE's ARE a social fish and prefer to be in groups. I've kept 2 together on two occassions (well, still have two pairs in two different tanks) and that seems to be enough, but I'm sure with more, their behavior is even more enjoyable :) They are completely peaceful. I have...

    Longed Finned Bristlenose Plecos

They are completely peaceful, won't suck on your fish (any of them) and are well suited for a community tank of most kinds as long as they have hiding places and no fin nippers in the tank, and you realize they get ~5" :) Just a WONDERFUL fish, and a GREAT algea eater.....and GORGEOUS to boot :D
  27. M

    Festivum....settling in nicely.

Nice Festi's Mike. I got mine over a year ago and it's now ~5". LOVE him to death, but he's a egg eater (w/Angels and Congo Tetras) and sort of a bully. Nothing bad, just likes to chase the others around a bit  This is mine so you can see what yours will look like...

    Krib Info

I posted this previously so I just copied and pasted it here..... Males and females both will have spots, although not all of them. I've never had a male with spots, but all of my females have had them. I've SEEN males with spots, but you can't sex them that way. Males and females both will...

male krib has been hiding for 2 days........

Poohbear, I didn't notice that you had 2 male Kribs. How big is the tank? That's generally not a good idea unless they are in a 40g or larger....MIGHT work in a 30 long or something..... These guys ARE Cichlids, and males need territory. The one hiding I'm going to assume is being terrorized...

    can you siphon

Yes you can....just need a TINY syphon :fun: Seriously, I have a littel mini-vac that I think I got from PetCo, and it works great. It has that "thing" in it that allows you to shake it to get the syphon started, and the vac tube itself telescopes so you can take it down to half it's length...

male krib has been hiding for 2 days........

Can you actually see the fish to observe his physical appearance? Be careful, my friend just lost one that did exactly the same thing as yours, only he hid in the cave for 2 days. No clue what was wrong, just thought you should be aware.

    What is your Favourite Platy?

I voted for Mickey Mouse's....too cute. Undawada, is this close to what yours look like? http://www.fish2u.com/plrtwc.html Neat fish. I had a male without the red, just white with black spots. He was a charmer :D Not sure what the "Bronzie" ones would be called?

    I have eggs!!!

Sorry to hear that, but don't give up on them. I got 3 spawns into free-swim and none survived? Give them a chance to get the hang of it. You've got time :)
  35. M

    Krib eggs

Don't be suprised if they did give up.....remember what I said above "If this is their first spawn, it may not survive. It can take then 4-6 times or so to get it right. It's a learned thing  " Give them a couple weeks and they should spawn again for ya :)
  36. M

    I have eggs!!!

Thanks, pnyklr3 :) Yep, that's his true coloring. He's an Apisto Cacatuoides. It's possible the female lost the eggs for some reason (which includes eating them). If it's their first spawn, it's possible they need to "get the hang of it". Takes a few times for some fish to figure out how...

    will algae-eating shrimp eat fry?

I'm not sure about Cherry's or Rudolph's, but I have always kept my Endlers with Amano Shrimp for algea control. I have gotten TONS of babies and even sold some at the last society auction :)

    Betta Tail Types

Ok, I hate to argue, but his tail isn't damaged. That's the way it is? I've had him for a while and even though some fin growth has occured, nothing has changed with his tail....it's almost exactly like when I got him. Well, the "combs" have lengthened, but no "Repair" to the tail. Or are...

    I have eggs!!!

Hi pnyklr3. I've gotten a few spawns from mine, but no fry survived -_- I saw the same thing as you, never noticing the male going into a cave, but still got the spawns and hatches? They seem more secretive then other Dwarfs from what I can tell. Just keep an eye on the mouth of the caves...
