    Annoying Dead Spot!

I like this question. My tank is equal in capacity to yours, but that's not really relevant. Good choice on the filter size and brand. I'm over filtering with a canister and have a fairly powerful powerhead running a foam filter. Most of my fish like the current. Plecos like fast moving water.  ...

    Looking For Uv Recommendations

Reading about it is good but nothing compares to actual experience. I'm sorry but too many people post to these forums with their interpretations of what they read without any first hand experience. I'm glad you were honest about it but you would be better off just referring to the articles...

    Looking For Uv Recommendations

If you just try to eradicate the ich parasites, you are just treating the symptom. Ich outbreaks happen for a reason. One of the most common is a sudden drop in water temperature.

    Fresh Tank Everything Dies

Goldfish are a poor choice for a ten gallon. So are angels and discus. Full grown they will barely fit in a ten gallon.   Properly treated, most tap water is fine for fish tanks. Distilled water is pure water. Not so good for fish unless you use additives to provide the trace elements like you...

    Blue Ram

His colors are even better when he's in focus. I think he's a little thin. I have him and a female in an overstocked and overfiltered tank with a bunch of active tankmates. Not an ideal environment for Rams. They were an impulse buy for a much larger tank that I had big plans for but ended up...

I've been trying to get a decent shot of this guy and this is the best I've gotten so far. His head is out of focus and the rest of him is just good enough to show his spots.

What Small Fish To Put With Red Belly Piranhas

Your options listed in order of efficiency are:   Manual clean-up after feeding - Stresses out your fish because the hate people. I've seem timid fish and it is not good to freak them out.   More filtration in the way of some sort of mechanical filter that is easy to clean - LFS guy is wrong.  ...

Is Cycling Necessary For Betta Fish?

Sorry... Here's a better one.   I worked in one place that had a special display set-ups with multiple compartments and multiple tiers. One of them was for bettas. The others were saltwater for housing small invertebrates and some specialty type fish. They were great for display and function...

What Small Fish To Put With Red Belly Piranhas

I've never been a fan of them but I've never used that one. They aren't really designed for large messes just quick, clean-ups. The OP has a large mess and the ones that I've used would get full or clogged up in this situation. Which would require cleaning the filter bag many times.

What Small Fish To Put With Red Belly Piranhas

Having a proper set-up is first and foremost the most important aspect of keeping fish. Proper filtration will minimize your maintenance and keep water conditions balanced. Simply put, you've got too much fish for your set-up. Adding more life of any type is going to increase the bio-load...

    Nice To See

I come from the fish-in cycling days. The stores I worked in would gladly sell "starter fish" and buy them back at a modestly discounted price when the ammonia was zero. If the fish lived, we had loyal customers. That was back when there was at least one LFS in every town.

Is Cycling Necessary For Betta Fish?

Just some food for thought.   Even in the best of conditions, Bettas have a fairly short life span. If I remember right, it's about three years. Experienced keepers were the majority of the business at the stores I worked at. I'm sorry but this rescuing them from the store is way overdone in...

Tetra From Lfs: Fin And Tail Problems

IMHO, Stress Coat is a good product, but it's way over-rated. I've been using it for treating water changes for years. I've got a feeling that it is not as good as it used to be and it's use as a general tonic on sick or injured fish has minimal to no real effect.

Tetra From Lfs: Fin And Tail Problems

If it is just a due to fin nipping and is not severe, I'm on the other side of the fence. Fins recover from nipping just fine. Observe them carefully until they are full acclimated to the tank. If the fins do not show any signs of getting worse, do not treat. As soon as you see further...

    New Zebra Plecos

I sent an email to Rod at that site I referenced above. He responded and said that he will have some ready in a few months. He even asked if I would like him to let me know when they are ready. I'll see if I can find any reviews from his customers.

    My Fish Seem Bored

I totally agree. But... selective breeding has been going on with fish for a very long time. Introducing genetics into the process was only a matter of time. I'm wondering how much more freakish goldfish can get.

    New Zebra Plecos

20 years ago I used to sell them for about $30.00. I haven't priced them recently nor have I seen them when I'm browsing the latest stock at the big store near me. It's probably my favorite pleco. I really like black and white contrast. It's reflected in that guy in my avi image that I raised.

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

I asked you to stop, you continued, and you openly said you would LOL if you wanted to. If that is not being insulting, then it is just being immature.

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

If the tank isn't big enough, there is nothing you can do!   I said it before and I'll say it again, "IMHO", that gave you the opportunity to disagree and we could have had an intelligent conversation. You decided to insult me.

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

If you had done your research properly, you would know that they need a place to hide and an open area for swimming.   How do you think you are going to do that in your tank?   They also prefer to be in larger numbers. Did you see that anywhere in your research?   Good luck with live plants...

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

Stop LOL at me, it's rude!   That information is wrong, period. A dog will live if left chained up all day. It doesn't mean it is an appropriate environment, right?   Do you want your fish to just live being stressed out all day every day or do you want them to be comfortable and thrive?   If...

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

If you did that much research, you were looking in the wrong places and got some very bad information. Have a look at their natural environment and tell us if what you have even remotely resembles it. Then think about how big these guys can get, 12 inches. That's 3 feet of fish in a 4 foot tank...

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

Those websites are misleading. They do not stress how important it is to keep them in schools. For most schooling fish, six would be a bare minimum. Piranha are fast moving fish, so they need a longer tank. I'm fairly certain your fish are having collisions with the glass from time to time. It's...

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

IMHO, a 55 gal tank is not appropriate for one of them. There is nothing you can do for the three of them except get a much bigger tank so that you can provide a proper environment.

    My New Shrimp Cube.

They are on my wish list. Beautiful fish. There is some confusion about the name, though. When I first saw them, I thought they looked more like a danio and just a quick search revealed they are also known as Celestial Danios.

    My Red Belly Piranhas 7-8"

That tank is way too small for them. They are extremely stressed. You think they hate people because they don't have any shelter to hide in when they feel threatened. Without any place to hide they are going to feel threatened all the time.
