    Poorly Platys

I've managed to get a couple of videos but it's saying they are too large for the server is there another way I can load them up??

    Poorly Platys

Just an update today. All have been keen to eat. Can not see any white spots on any any more but still some flashing against the plants and gravel and the Hawaiians are still preferring to stay in bottom with rapid breathing. Gave another dose of Esha 2000 and gdex. Am I right to continue? Would...

    Poorly Platys

The white spots have now gone since Wednesday, you want pics of them at the bottom of the tank?? Closest I can get at the moment. I've turned tank lights off to reduce stress.

    Poorly Platys

Afternoon all, hope everyone had enjoyed the Easter break. Been having a few problems with my tank. Purchased two baby platys from a lfs and lost both within the week. Tested water and all parameters are fine. I believe they may have brought something into the tank unfortunately. Noticed a few...

    Red mark on Platy

Thank you - not sure if this is a daft question. Should I still feed the fish tonight or give them a break tonight??

    Red mark on Platy

concerned it might be more than a missing scale. Fish has been quiet since the weekend but this is the first day of seeing a physical problem. Also now just staying at the bottom of the tank. With the julii corys and bristlenose salt still best over the melafix and primafix??

    Red mark on Platy

Nope got rid of two male platys that were being a nuisance and a couple of guppies. That was a couple of weekends ago. This has developed today. No sharp objects or decor. Even got the fluval heater because it was fully covered to reduce risk of burns etc. Got live plants so no plastic. Tank is...

    Red mark on Platy

Come home to find a red mark/sore on one of my platys. The others are also quite skittish. It's unusual for them to be hiding. I have melafix and primafix in the cupboard. Is it worth trying these? I lost a Cory on Sunday but wondering if maybe due to these being new fish that ? readings are...

    Have I got this wrong??

After a day, two male platys and two guppies that seem to be the problem will be going back to the store Saturday Last male platy seems pretty chilled out and the other guppies are also fine not showing any interest. When these go back will have 7 platys and 5 guppies. Can anyone recommend...

    Have I got this wrong??

Lol! Given them a few too many places to hide I think. Thought it would be a good thing. Least not overcrowding. Not the result I wanted having to take some back to the shop :( Might have to think of some other tank mates instead
  14. A

    Have I got this wrong??

Definitely 7 guppies in there, not wrong about that ;) Read platys were ok tank mates with guppies? The three I've put in the box seem to be the trouble makers. Rest seem to be doing ok now?

    Have I got this wrong??

That's why don't get why they are singling her out?? There are 6 other females in there!

    Have I got this wrong??

Doesn't look like she's about to drop fry or am I wrong? Thought the black would be further back?? The two bad males and guppy have gone in the naughty box for now and everyone else is getting on so may look to re-home these three. Shame as they are beautiful blue.

    Have I got this wrong??

Got my tank cycled and added 7 male guppies and a mix of 7 platys. Turns out 3 males for 4 females. Two of the males have been constantly chasing one of the females all the others have been left alone. I’ve gone and bought 2 females today to try and up the female numbers. They still seem...

    Too much ammonia??

Did have a wobble in the middle I must admit lol Sorry one more question, when the fish do arrive is it worth putting any medication in there for stress or anything??

    Too much ammonia??

Fab. Can probably do 80 or 90% to be fair. Thank you for your help through all this!

    Too many fish too soon??

I must admit that is what I was reading this morning from the cycle link as I printed it off. Just wondered if was widely used. Wouldn't go 100% straight off

    Too many fish too soon??

I’m approaching the end of my tank cycle(at last!) and looking ahead at the moment I can finally add fish. Tank is 150l cube shaped. Got a fluval 307 external, wanted more filteration than the 207. PH is currently 8, out of the tap is 7. KH is 15 and GH 20 (hard water here!) So my actual...

    Too much ammonia??

Nearly there! Yesterday nitrite had a 1 reading and nitrate between 40/80 and this morning all three back to 0! Added 3ml more ammonia so will see what happens tomorrow. If I get a 0 result on everything after 24 hours during the week, I wouldn’t be able to add any fish until a weekend. Do I...

    Too much ammonia??

:yahoo:Bit excited tonight. Tested and ammonia and nitrite both at 0! Actually tested the nitrite twice in case I did it wrong lol. Nitrate has also dropped. Tested ph in case that had crashed but that’s showing as 8 (out of the tap it’s 7). obviously put in 3ml of ammonia now. Fingers crossed...

    Too much ammonia??

Oh gosh couldn’t kill the snail. Just hope don’t get more lol Feeling far more positive again with the cycle. Was feeling pretty low when it all went haywire! Nitrite has only gone up to 2 after putting in the ammonia last night so think it’s good it’s not really gone up. :) Not sure if I...

    Too much ammonia??

There was me thinking I wasn't ready for any "livestock" yet :rolleyes: just hoping that's the only one!! On a plus first time nitrite low enough and before 4th day so added the 3ppm ammonia :)

    Too much ammonia??

Lol finally being the operative word  They won’t harm the fish?? When I do finally get my two 0 readings I’m planning on doing a very hefty water change as nitrates are still so high. I’ll take the wood out and give it a proper scrub and the glass to get rid of any that I can
  32. A

    Too much ammonia??

Noticed what look like tiny, tiny white mites in the water. Tried to take a photo but they're too small. Running over the glass and well everywhere. Are these normal or have I now got a pest problem from somewhere??

    Too much ammonia??

I’m certainly appreciating the help and advice!! Been feeling very lost with all this and Essjay you’ve been a rock with your guidance. Tonight’s test is ammonia still at 0, nitrite 4 and nitrate still at 80. “”Assuming ammonia drops to zero quickly, add 1 ppm ammonia every 4th day until...
  35. A

    Too much ammonia??

Nitrite was still high so tested tank water and treated tap and done a water change to get it back down and added some ammonia. Will see what happens tonight when I get home! If ammonia is still 0 presume just add another 1ppm or should I go for at least 3ppm to try and get this back up again...
  36. A

    Too much ammonia??

I know this is probably really sad, but I'm actually dreading going home later to test the water! I know you said if the nitrite is still high only add 1ppm ammonia. Should I do a large water change first to get the nitrite down before adding more ammonia? Also checked the plants and yes...
  37. A

    Too much ammonia??

"Hopefully, they will soon start to lower nitrite. Wait 2 days and if nitrite is still high, add 1 ppm ammonia. But if nitrite drops below 1 ppm, add 3 ppm ammonia." Do you think nitrite might drop that low that quickly?? Can't remember fishkeeping being this stressful! Please say this is the...
  38. A

    Too much ammonia??

Only just tested the tank as not going to lie was worried what the results would be. Ammonia is still at 0 and nitrite gone back up. Nitrates still high at 80 I know need to add some ammonia to get a reading but will make the nitrites go up more. Given I've added that Dr Tim's stuff I'm now...
