    khuli loaches

Anyone know how long the average life is on one of these fish? We see ours around 3 - 5 times a week, it's been resident for nearly 5 years... We only have one, we don't want anymore as a heating cable is going to be fitted later, they are pain to catch :D

I know this is a hard one to answer...

    >> but blue platy is attacking others in the tank << Blue platy attacks & then your fish suffer secondary problems resulting from the platy.. Weak fish suffer... leading to damage > infection/disease then (hopefully not) death! Would you like to be looked in a garden shed with all your mean...

    Whats up with my neons?

I had problems with neons when i first started where as i lost a few, putting it down to a bad batch from the local fish fish, i decided later to buy some more elseware, and they are still swimming around after 3 years of pleasing the families eyes... Later I purchased 20 cardinals & they seem...

I know this is a hard one to answer...

I would seperate the affected fishes & isolate them in a hospital/quarantine tank, still carrying on the treatment in the main tank. Do you have a hospital tank for emergencies? At least this way if your out of town, if the severly affected fishes do die while your away, you won't have a...

    Failed lighting system

I got two relectors for my rio 180 It sure does make a difference.. I had to remove the front relector on mine as it started to cause problems with the green stuff, we all hate... Emergency lighting is good idea, but it tends to go on 3 am in the morning on a power cut.

    Too bright pictures

I use a FUJI finepix 2800 zoom I find the best settings is... 1. Turn of the flash 2. Manual focus 3. Use a tripod/steady hand 4. Dark room/only use fish lights (no light bounce)

    cleaning a magnetic algae cleaner...

I've gone through various magnetic glass cleaners, mostly all have scratched the glass on the tank, (Juwel RIO 180) Now I use a black pad (forgot the proper name for it) it does not scratch the glass, but it means the hands goto go inside to do the work... For hard to remove spores i...

    clown loaches

My clown loach lives up to his name, makes clicking noises at feeding time & plays dead, he was very timid for a few days when we first got him, but eventually he was king of the tank (slight tension between red tailed black shark, mr mean) I found clown loaches look dull if they are new to the...

    glowlight tetras

I was thinking along the lines of dropsy too, or another form of a bacterial infection. Are the swollen tank mates eating?

    Emergengy

The silver shark's mouth has gone back to normal, it was very swollen before, only slight dullness in colour, it's swimming around doing very well. A happy result all round... :D The small plecs like to explore, they go inside the filter etc, the missus thinks the plec was guilty & jumped in...

I know this is a hard one to answer...

Some old water pipes are made of lead (not good) have you asked the water company what the pipes are? the incomming pipes (property) are lead sometimes. There is pre water treatment that can sort your tap water out if your unsure you could use treated water for a while to see if the problems...

    Emergengy

I managed to pull the plec out of the silver sharks mouth i was very careful & steady (little shaky) with the silver shark, being careful not to further damage the fishes eyes while holding etc. It's got to have hurt the fish, be like pulling a cactus out our throat, but in a way after the...
