I recently acquired a new breeding pair from a fellow breeder here in Canada. We travel often, and over the past year we have not been able to handle spawning bettas due to being away for days at a time. Though we still keep lotsa fish, and as of late, have slowed down our traveling:)

So, this lovely new pair I received is to bring us a new Blues line.....

They are spawn sibs, Voodoo the male is a beautiful, Blue Butterfly Halfmoon (see my avatar).
His sister Mojo is a turq halfmoon.

It took 4 days of 'courting' to spawn correctly, but they had a healthy batch of babies, who are free swimming now and hanging out on the fake, floating duckweed. The female was very responsive and took only one bite out of her dorsal, the male is untouched.

The male did excellent nestcare, until they were free swimming then he let the nest disintigrate overnight. Its a reasonably small spawn, their first (4 mos old). About 50 babies. They were fed liquifry and BBS today, I have a small corner filter slowed down, in their tank.

We should end up with a spawn of 50% royals and the remainder blues and grees/turq.
We have several breeder friends whom we will be sharing with, and trading with. And maybe a few for offer to other Canadians when the time comes.

I'll try to post some photos this week

OMG! Your parents sound stunning... I also *just* spawned a sibling BF HM pair, what a wierd coincidence. They're both green, though. I was considering spawning him with a steel blue just to get royals, they're gorgeous!

Good luck with your fry!! They sound like they're in the exact same stage as my little guys ^_^ too bad I don't live in Canada, or I'd have to buy a baby from you to spawn with one of mine... :shifty:

Yes I was admiring your posting earlier:) I'd love to swap babies in the future, for some reason I always breed non-reds such as blues greens and yellows, so yours would be great wtih mine:)) Alot of breeders who are not importer exporters simply ship their stock to breeders who are and can export - and are in their own country, so there is always that option to trade fishies:))

I'll try to post some more photos, my avatar of the male is a little old he looks so wittle and cute in it, lol.

Ohhhhh, is the boy in your avvy the Dad? In that case, yes I will need a baby!! I think I was harassing you about his awesomeness a couple weeks ago. :hey: I'm exactly the same, I am such a sucker for blues/greens/turqs AND yellows!

I also think our babies could produce some AWESOME offspring! I'll definitely look into shipping to you thru a breeder, I know there's people in my Betta club who you could ship to and they could then hand off the baby/s to me. Definitely something to look into ^.~

Aww thanks yes he is the Dad, the pic is old tho he looks young and stubby in it. He has beautiful clean color and pattern and good strong branching in his tail, he has *slightly* long anal fin same as his dad and grandpa.

He is actually a little depressed right now that I took him away from his babies:( But he is eating well and I've been treating him with bettafix and love, lol.

Mama is so cute and such a character she is my fave female. She is vibrantly turquoise and very friendly, smart.

I also have some people in my club who can export, so we will have to check that out in the coming months!

The babies are good, I syphoned the bottom today, and they are all checking out the tank. I syphone into a white margerine tub and let it settle, makes it SO easy to see babies. They I suck them out, and swirl like a goldpanner, lol, and keep sucking them out as it settles. I ended up with five in there, all back at home safely.

I also counted the babies, about 25 like to hang out in the open, the rest like the plants I figure there is still somewhere near 50. They all seem to be eating well, tank is nice and moist too, I am running the airstone/filter for a few hours a day.

aww congrats cant wait to see the babies.... :) arent they the teeniest things ever! haha you know I estimated to have less then 80 in one of my spawns and I ended up having over 150! haha its amazing how these little buggers can hide!

Its a smaller spawn than some I have had, but that can be a good thing too:)

Here are a few pics, the daddy pics are right after i removed him from his babies and fed him so he is forlorn, no flaring in these pics.

Mommy right after eating back in her main tank too.
The baby pics were from as soon as they were free swimming.

Yes, as I wrote in the post, they just ate their first meal of bloodworms since being removed from the spawn tank, her on the day of spawning, he 4 days later:)) I like to remove them and feed them fairly soon after, seems to help them de-stress...tho sometimes the daddies don't like to eat for a few hours. I actually spoon feed the female

big full bellies! :hey:

Oh ,sorry :*) I guess I ahould have read all the post before posting a question. I tend to rush through peoples post when I see good pictures of bettas. :D

:hyper: they're GORGEOUS! They look like blue-er versions of my boy and girl... I'm already thinking of what your babies and my babies spawn will look like!!! mwahaha

Maui is also pretty stressed. For a few hours after I removed him, he just swam around frantically, like he wanted so badly to be back with his kids ... he ate a bunch of bw's today, and his chin is still a bit pale but I think he's settling down. I feel horrible for taking him out, but he had been in there for 5 days without food, constantly working! I'm not completely sure if I didn't jump the gun, though, because it seemed like the fry could've benefited from him being in there for another day.... still, he was spending way too much time in the plants looking for the free-swimmers, and it seemed like he was starting to snack on them :sly:

I loove the fry pics, they look just like my little munchkins ! Gawd how cute are they? I have no idea how many fry I have, but it looks like 100+... hopefully I can do a big water change in a few days, and attempt to count them. Until then I'm a suctioning fiend too!!

Haha that is funny, I think my male started to snack a little at the end too, though everytime I would watch he would make sure I saw him put carefully spat them back on top. He started to get frustrated when they were all starting to swim and go up and down, eventually he started just sitting in the plant watching them fall and bounce back up:unsure: So it was time to take him out.

He's still a little pouty, though he is eating. He has stuck himself to the intake of the filter in the minibow twice, not cause he's weak he's doing fine health-wise, he's just morose:(I am going to let him flare and showoff a little today to get his spirits up  )

Good luck with the babeees! Love to see some more pics as they get older!
