Here are my babies! Angus is the (neutered) brindle male, 16 months old. Sky is the (spayed) black female,4 yrs old.

(the white pup was my deaf foster dane at the time, but she has since been adopted!)

Those are some very pretty dogs you have there..that puppy is adorable..I love that pattern..Harequin isn't it?

I love Great Danes. My neighbor use to have one that would come over and visit..my mom was SCARED to death of him...lol course all he would have done was lick her...course that might be what she was afraid of LMAO (she's not an animal lover like me).

His name was Hoss (after the guy on Bonaza).

The pup (Phoebe) is a merlequin (not a "standard" color). She had merle patches, versus black patches. She had one brown eye and one blue and was born deaf(her parents were both merle (gray with black patches), which are genetically undesirable to breed,usually leading to deaf and/or blind puppies).
And since I could go on and on, I'll just stop and post a better pic of Phoebe!! LOL

I sat POTM for the backer-upper! I love the look on his face. It's like "whaaaaat? Everyone else was sitting down??!?!?" :lol:

And it figures the ones I think are the prettiest would be the ones that are most genetically undesireable :lol:

...I have that kinda luck. *oye*

He really sits on everything...the couch,our friends,us...and the other dane LOL

Merles and merlequins (and other mismarks) can come from responsible,ethical breedings that are usually aiming for colors from the breed standard(from the 2 standards they bred--for example a harlequin x mantle). It's really a course in genetics!
But in Phoebe's case (and so many others) people throw 2 dogs together for a money making opportunity and disregard proper breeding practices,health tests,standard conformation,etc,etc to better a breed. There's so much more to it than having a male and female!

We had to go get her so the breeder wouldn't put her down for being deaf

Mismarks still make fantastic pets and are all beautiful no matter what

Anywho....I rambled--Sorry! LOL

My Dobe used to sit on the sofa the same way as your Dane. I bet she thought she was human and trying to mimic us - it's hillious ! :lol:

They are beautiful dogs! That puppy reminds me of the deaf australian shep. puppy that we have at the shelter right now. She's so adorable! They're the same color.

Yea!! I love Danes! They are so comical. Mine used to sit on everyone too. Also a backer-upper

) . I loved it when he would sit with his butt on the couch & feet on the floor. Just sitting there and grinning with the "See, I can do it too."

My parents neighbor has a great dane and he's huge! My fiance came to visit my parents one day and asked if the neighbors had a cute little pony. :lol:
