I bought 4 of these guys today and I can't figure out what exactly they are. They were in a tank with the only type of betta listed as betta smaragdina althought I know they arn't smaragdinas. The tank next to them had betta edithae listed. They look similar to Betta edithae as well as Betta enisae although the coloring is a bit different and the tail type is more pointy.

Sorry for the terrible pictures. They are pretty scared at the moment and I didn't want to bug them too much.

No I don't think it's edithae either. I was on the IBC website going through the whole species list looking through pictures but I can't really tell what these ones are. I'm pretty sure they are bettas though???

I was told they would be fine size wise in my 14 gallon tank. They are all pretty small right now. The largest is about 3 1/2 cm and the other three are about 2 cm. The males and females of this species can live together peacefully. I don't think they will be getting too much larger. Quite a few of the ones that look similar say 10 cm or so though...so now I'm wondering

The betta guy who usually works there wasn't there today so I wasn't able to find out exactly what they were.

no, it deffiantely is not betta bellica

i think it may be some type of licorice gourami as it is too small to be any betta that i know of and i have never seen a wild type betta with such a large dorsal fin.
it is not bellic because bellica is distinctively green. yours has a blue band. the closest guess i have is betta enisae but i will ask around on my wild betta sites.

I didn't think it was betta bellica either.

I just had my boyfriend look at them and he says the biggest one is 4 1/2 cm and the smaller ones are around 3 cm so I was wrong with the sizes I said before :*)

I was thinking it might be some kind of licorice gourami as the tail just doesn't look like any betta I've seen. I'd appriciate it if you'd ask around ;)

i started to, it could also be a paradise fish from what has been said so far on the other boards, and it does look like a young paradise fish but the body size makes it look like a licorice gourami.
