I haven't posted pictures of my tank in a while so I figured I would do so. It was pretty bad at one point because I took out all the grass and all the background plants and added flourite over everything, but now I think it's okay.

Here's a picture before pruning...

gonna sound stupid but how you go about pruning, what you cut off can you replant? will it grow roots
It all depends on what plant you aim to propagate.

Looking great though Konrad! I like it pruned, Do you just use normal scissors?

Thanks! With the pruning I bought this special arm that has scissors at the end of it, and I just cut the tops off most of the plants. I forget what it's called but you can find the device at any LFS, the scissor tip can change to a tweezer tip too and the arm is about 2 feet long. You can replant the cuttings with the tweezers but I usually throw them out :)

Spectacular tank, konrad05. The lush growth of the plants provides a seemless transition from one side to the other. I like the dense bunch on the left side of the tank. Nice rainbowfish too, btw.

Those arm contraptions are nice. It's also good having recycled stainless steel surgical gear to use for the planted aquarium. Stuff like stitching/dermis scissors for pruning and surgical forceps for planting. They're well sterilized, so I don't really pay much attention to what they've been used for in the OR... Actually, on second thought, maybe I should get one of those contraptions.

looking good conrad.

is this the "ARM" thing you are on about, if so theyre great aren't they. i use it every day and er more than once..

Yep that's the one jimbooo
Keeping a planted tank just wouldn't be the same without it, especially with propagation! Thanks again

Konrad, any chance you could post some details of your plants, setup etc? very impressed with your tank and planning a 350lt planted at the moment,

thanks

Flourite gravel mixed with "aquatic soil" gravel

lights on for 11 hours, 1 hour dark period

plants:
mix of hygro, ludwigia species, amazon sword, hair grass, cardamine, saggitaria grass, valis, crypts, and some other stuff I don't remember

konrad, I love your tank. It looked really good after pruning too. It all looks so organised and neat. love it.

It looks absolutely beautiful ! But wow - 11 hours of light ?!

Edit: just goes to show how little I know about properly maintained planted tanks :( I'm keen to get started on a nice planted tank myself and have been lurking in the planted section for a while now. I've just started reading all the articles (there are loads! in the pinned section) and I see 10 hours is actually quite the norm.
