Well, I didn't seperate the kapuas when they got here. Instead I packed them full of food for a few days and today I found them embracing :*) Ughh, it's so beautiful!!!
They embrace like normal splendens but the male stays in a curve and catches the eggs in the fold of his body. The female then picks up the eggs one by one off of him and twirls them in her mouth. Then she swims in a circle, arches her back and spits them out while he rushes to catch them. His mouth is packed with eggs. The eggs are at least 10X the size that of a splenden. I got some great shots so here's a few. I don't expect this spawn to be successful. He may swallow the eggs.

Here she is spitting a few eggs (she would do them 3 or 4 at a time)

Both going after an egg. For some reason she would race to pick them up before he did

Oh, wow, how exciting...I'll keep my fingers crossed, maybe they'll pull a few out of it. What lovelies you have.

That's amazing! :hyper:

I can't believe how big the eggs are.

Good luck with the spawn, even though you think daddy will swallow the eggs.

Edit: cation beat me to it again.

Thanks guys! I think they like that rock. I noticed them 'choosing' two areas and that was one of them. It's an elevated flat surface and I guess it's perfect for what they had in mind

It really is amazing. They didn't mind me sitting there snapping pics or anything. They've been at it for hours :*) Too bad it's almost time for lights out in the fish room

They Suer didn't waste any time in Getting Jiggy.

Good Luck.

Dont Mean to Hijack, Kelly - you got Imbellis' right. Do yours Swim Like a Serpent. The 1's I got for £1 Each Move around Like Sea Serpents Moving their Bodies left and Right - Its So cool.

congrats wuv, ur going to gte some nice fish outa this, lol the amle looks like a chipmunk  when do they hatch, iv never owned mouth brooders b4 -_-

They incubate for a week :) And thanks! He's still holding. It's funny because the female has been begging all day and every time I feed her,he ducks to resist the temptation.

Just a week? -_- Are they different than other mouthbrooders? Usually they hold for 2 weeks or so. :dunno: Anyways, awesome shots and good luck. They took right after my horny falx didn't they.

I dunno. I was talking via email with Gerald Griffin, who gives speeches on wild types for IBC, and he told me incubation was a week in kapuas :dunno:
