I want to introduce my first betta. I've had him for about a week now and he's very happy to be where he is. I picked him up from a local shop called CountryMax. They deal mostly with farm and garden supplies (doesn't exactly fit in with pets.) Small selection and I would not go to them for advice, but the place is clean. Anyway, I was looking to get a betta for my (finally) cycled 2gal. I picked up this fella for three reasons: 1. he was the only light colored one in their batch, contrasting with the dark gravel in his tank, 2. He was in the largest container of the lot (mason jar), and 3. He was the most active of the other bettas (probably the extra space).

I have to admit, I wasn't a real betta fan and really wanted cherry barbs in this little tank. After being warned away from that (good forum advice), I was left with bettas as the choice. Can't say that I'm in love, but I've definitely bonded with him. All that's left is to give him a name.

very pretty! like the blue on his tail and dorsal. sorry i suck at naming fish though! my latest stroke of genius was to name them after people here on the forum!

you betta is so sweet  i like his colour.
i always have a hard time naming my bettas - i actaully have 2 that have been nameless for a couple weeks and 5 that are just coming up on a week so that means naming can start soon (i like to wait a wk before naming my fish - just incase).
i sometimes use this site for ideas http://pregnancy.parenthood.com/babynames.html?src=overture
it may seem kinda cheeezy  but you can type in words in the meaning and find the corresponding name, which i think is kinda neat as i like to give my fish names with meaning.
best of luck naming your new guy, let us know what you decide to call him. :)

He's gorgeous. I had a red delta crown tail betta with similar coloration, his name was Crimson :/

Thanks all for the replies. I was thinking of using my forum name. I like the irony. Eratosthenes was a Greek scientist/philosopher that was given the unfortunate nickname "beta" because a rival thought he was second best at everything. ;)

Time to feed him. :D

If you decide to go with eratosthenes, that's cool, but howabout lucifer? He looks like such a little devil. :hey:  :p

Not so demonic. Tho, he has a tendency to flare constantly after sunset. He must be able to see himself. That, or he is falling in love with the oxcalis (butterfly clover) plant next to his tank! :p
