Opal has fin rot?

Seachem Kanaplex. Didn't know there where other brands...

Melafix is actually. Especially on species like betta with the labyrinth organ I believe.
A lot of times meds like these can be deadly. The medication can be harsh and I believe in only using it as a last resort.
I would recommend @Fishandto stop using the melafix and JUST use the salt for a few days...
It has been reported that a lot of labyrinth organ fish die due to this medication
It CAN damage their labyrinth organ. That's because it contains Tea Trea Oil BUT only if you use it for extended periods or use too much. I'd not recomend it obviously, but IMO fish don't die from melafix, they die because melafix is not strong enought to kill the fish's desease and the desease kills the fish. And then the owner blames Melafix....

If it damages them it shouldn't be used. That's personally my view...

IMO it does when it's used incorrectly.... like most other meds. But it's not a good medication. It's not strong enough to treat anything. So I agree it should not be used.

My betta is a b. pugnax. No fin rot problems. Any splendens I’ve had I’ve not had luck with fixing fin rot
I'm really sorry I wish there was something else I could do 😕
@WhistlingBadger maybe you can help?
@JuiceBox52 I don't know if you have dealt with fin rot before on your betta?...

My advice is don't add any more meds, including salt, until we're sure what's wrong. Is there any fuzzy growth on the fins?

How's your water quality? Ammonia, nitrate, nitrite? To me this looks more like a water quality issue than an infection, so start there.

@Byron is an ace with this stuff, too. So is @Essjay . If there's a disease I bet they'll know what it is.

I will leave this for more knowledgeable betta folks like @Essjay but I certainly agree not to start random medications/treatments unless the exact issue is reasonably certain. Any substance added has the probability of stressing out the fish, making the issue worse, so if it is not actually going to help it is not a good idea.

I'm going to get water parameters now....

His fin melting has slowed down since adding salt so that's at least good....

Ordered Kanaplex, will arrive Thursday thru Saturday....

No, he doesn't have any fuzzy growth. Just bloody fins melting....

I added some plants because he's been laying on the ground for the past several days. He is now at the top and trying to make a bubble nest.
I guess thateans he is feeling a bit better!
Good to hear!
Hopefully Opal makes a full recovery

Not looking good. 😭😭😭
