It is very possible. But he could have just got injured on something in the tank.
Use salt at a dose rate of 2tbsp per 5 gallons to be safe. Do not use for more than two weeks.
When you stop using the salt, slowly drop the salt rate every water change as not to shock the fish. You should also slowly add the salt dose in the first time

Just added salt and did a water change. Opal's fins are literally melting away.

I'm so sorry I don't have any other advice. Just stick with the salt until someone else is able to help you.

Guys, I'm scared for him. His fins are half the size compared to a few days ago.

My other 2 male bettas have died from fin rot. I have never been able to treat fin rot. Uggghhhhh

Melafix is not THAT bad. And most meds are safe to use with melafix...

I used a Jungle fin rot treatment and salt.
Is Kanaplex available where you live?
Melafix is actually. Especially on species like betta with the labyrinth organ I believe.
A lot of times meds like these can be deadly. The medication can be harsh and I believe in only using it as a last resort.
I would recommend @Fishandto stop using the melafix and JUST use the salt for a few days...
It has been reported that a lot of labyrinth organ fish die due to this medication
Never heard of that brand....
