Hey everyone, I have a juwel 180 tank been going since February. Small gravel substrate, plastic and live plants. Just wondering if tank may be overstocked.
1 rubbernose pleco
2 electric blue rams
4 gouramis
3 annies gobies
4 neon dwarf rainbow
12 cardinal tetras
1 rainbow shark
Just added 2 kribs
Just wondered if this was too much or if I could add a couple more. Not lost a single fish. Tia.

Seems a bit much, also rainbow shark should not be kept with cardinals. I personally think it’s overstocked

If rainbow sharks are anything like their cousin the red tail black shark, they should be ok with cardinals. I have a red tail with neons. Never had any issue. The only issue I’ve had with the shark was when it was in with a firemouth. They did not get along. I had them in a 55 gallon as well. So the 180l may be a bit small for all the fish you have in there. Sharks need space.

Plug in your info here, and see what it reports on your stocking: http://www.aqadvisor.com/

Thanks, just tried www.aquadvisor.com, didn't recognise the gobies, saying overstocked. 117%. I have no issues with the shark and cardinals, shark not interested in them. I have 2 opaline and 2 3 spot gouramies, again nae issues with them being aggressive, maybe just lucky, or they have enough places to hide

What about your nitrates? Any issue with high nitrate?

All levels are good, had an issue with high nitrates back in April, lots of water changes, did 30% every 2 days, until it was sorted, bought live plants to help with that, as I said not lost a single fish yet

So nitrates sitting below 20 all the time?

How often do you water change?

I religiously change every week, 50-60 litres. Missed a change one week and that's when I got a spike in my nitrates and nitrites, fish were at top of tank, lethargic, so never missed change since then

Based off the reaction your fish had after just one missed water change especially when they’re being done every week - it’s probably overstocked.

Also did you buy your fish as juveniles or already adults? It might start appearing overstocked the more they grow and if anyone starts breeding. Maybe start with adding even more plants? It’ll help with the nitrates.

Think I was also overfeeding them at that time. Adding plants slowly, want to see how they grow and how much space they take up

I really think that tank is gonna end up way too small for your rainbow shark.
