Too many fish??

Thought they only got about 6" when fully grown. So how long before they reach full size? Have to start saving for a second tank
Just because they only get a certain size doesn’t mean they won’t want to take up more space. My red tail uses all 48” of its 55 gallon.
That tank is going to be severely over-crowded when all your fish reach adult size unfortunately.

I’ve had my shark about 2.5 years, and it’s a solid 4-5 inch and thick.

And again, I’m basing this off a red tail black shark. So not exactly the same as a rainbow, but as far as I know they are a similar fish

Think I was also overfeeding them at that time. Adding plants slowly, want to see how they grow and how much space they take up
That’s smart to add plants slowly. I’ve actually made that mistake. Algae is typically the result too because of the melt.

Also when you have an established plant it’ll likely grow quickly (depending on what it is of course) and you can always cut and replant. I bought a rotala a few weeks ago, and by the current growth I’ll be able to have an entire area of just rotala within two months or less.

I hope your plants bring you and your fishies the desired result! :)

Thanks, already cut and replanted the ones I have, but def needing different varieties, need to get rid of the bigger plastic ones

Sound, so I have time to get another tank, don't need one too soon, would you suggest a longer and shallower tank for the shark then?

This is the tank I have my shark in. Just a standard 55 gallon. The sharpie is at 1ft from the right. Your shark will use the whole tank as it’s own.image.jpg
That is my shark, looking at it now, I’d say it’s easily 4.5 inches nose to tail. I’ve had it since December 2020.

if it hasn't grown in that time, it's not getting any bigger.

and if the sharks are getting along after 2 years, don't change anything because they have a nice stable pecking order. If you remove one shark, complete chaos could rain down in the tank. You can remove other fish but don't disturb the balance of the sharks.

Oh my guy/gal is the only shark I have. I was showing what the op is in for. And my tank as an example of what I would call a minimum tank size for just one with tank mates.
