How to do water changes WITH fry in the tank and refill

Yes it does. I fill a big 110ltr bin up and pump the water through a hose with that strainer at the end.

The diy colander will work well for you with a smaller tank tho.
Would you mind linking a site to buy that? And yah I will also look into some strainers as well... I will test out my mom's outside if she lets me... I just have to make sure it doesnt fall lol

Might not help much me putting a link as im in the Uk but if you put intake strainer in google it should lead you in the right direction.

You could try attaching a small water bottle up to the hose. Pop some holes in the bottom and fill it with foam or sponge.

Will do the same job if not better

I may just do that! Thank you for the ideas!

I'm been throwing an aquaclear mesh bag over the end of my siphon to protect fry ( it was handy)

That... Is a great idea! Thank you!

So that connects to the hose then?
Use a part of filterpipe, stick one side it in the (filter)hose and attach this to it. For getting water out.of the tank cover this with a foam prefilter so fry won't get sucked in.

Using this for any waterchange for 40 years now.

You don't need to use a part of the active filter, just go find or buy a narrow piece of rigid pipework from a hardware store and attach a hose to one end and wrap some sponge onto the other end held on by an elastic band so that you can take the sponge off for cleaning periodically.
